Good performance; great quality; crappy software; very expensive to run

Summary: This printer does everything I wanted it to do, and does it well in excess of my expectations. Plain paper printing is excellent, and the photo prints are simply gorgeous. I cannot tell the difference between this printer's photo output and store-bought prints. Furthermore, the memory card, wireless functionality, and the built-in display work great. The UI is intuitive and works well for printing photos directly from a camera's memory card.
Summary: I just recently received this printer after a lot of research. I wanted a wireless printer that actually worked--my HP Photosmart 4580 that I got with my Apple iMac didn't work. It would fall asleep and not wake up. The documents would get stuck in the print queue. I tried re-installing the software and that didn't work. I finally decided to get a new printer.
Limited use on my printer, but very pleased w/it so far

Summary: I did a lot of research on similar All-In One printers like the Canon PIXMA MP980. I was impressed with the good reviews and comments received from professionals and product users. I have not had mine very long, but I am impressed with the features and flexibility this printer offers. I wouldn't say that this printer is so complex that it is difficult to master, buy my use has been limited and I'm still learning the tools and experiementing.
Summary: Have had printer for about 3 weeks now - very happy so far. Prior printer was Canon 950i. It prints about as fast as my old printer (4.x6 in 20-30 seconds), but prints are even better (they were pretty good in the 950i) - they look like professional prints. I had issues getting my wireless connection with the printer - but that was due to my router (which causes hardship whenever I try to add something wireless on my network).
Great printer and scanner but terrible documentation

Summary: I wanted an all in one printer that worked wirelessly and this printer seemed like my best bet after reading all the reviews. I have used the printer for almost two weeks now on a Windows XP system and on a Vista system running 64 bits. Here is my evaluation so far. I will list pros and cons up front for those that don't want to read my whole review.
Summary: I've had it for over a year and I like it. I primarily use this printer for printing out homework with colored graphics on the pages. I just realized that it's been years and I've never printed out a picture from my digital camera. Unfortunately I can't comment on the photo printing aspect. However, with basic, everyday printing, It's worked perfectly. Software - I only installed the driver so I have no experience with Canon's software.
Summary: I have now owned this printer for the past month. I needed a new all in one printer to replace my old one. This printer prints blazing fast black and white text and professional quality pictures. I enjoy the double sided printing as well, which makes it easy to print trifold brochures. I would highly recommend this product if the price does not deter your.
Summary: I ordered my printer from the Canon website as soon as it was out in October. The first one that I received did not work. Some kind of error kept coming up on the screen, almost 2 hours on the phone with a Canon rep and the bottom line is it was some error with the print head/ink station. Customer service was terrific, tried everything but still didn't work. They sent me a replacement, I had it in three days.
Summary: This printer mostly lives up to its technical descriptions with many great features and is the best Canon printer I have had to date. I highly recommend its so far. Although I was very pleased with my Canon i980, this surpasses it providing even higher quality prints. I also found emailing tech support for a minor difficulty resulted in a rapid and helpful response.
Summary: Apart from the utterly irritating fact that the Amazon price has halved in the year since I bought the 980 (is it end of line now I wonder?), there are two negatives amongst all the positives. True - it is a great piece of kit in terms of print speed (on fast draft), colour photo quality and various bells and whistles such as the ability to form digi images from colour slides - which was one reason I bought it.
