Pros: Print quality of pictures is as good as those from any print shop. Love the duplex print feature.
Cons: After 2 years of use (not heavy), text varies from good to unreadable, from black to grey or white streaks. Ran every maintainance method in manual made no difference. Support says needs service. Epson Stylus Color of 7 yrs. still doing great.
Summary: I too own this printer and apparently there is a problem with the print head on this model. I have the same problem as many of you, it won't recognize the yellow cartridge. It only took about thirty days for this error to start popping up. I was going to get a new print head, but after reading everyone's review, I am just going to trash it and and accept it as a lesson learned. For me, it is the end of the road for Canon.
Summary: I bought my Canon MP600 printer in January of 2007. In July 2007 while still under warranty it required service for the U051 'Ink cartridge not recognized' error. Now (May/June 2008) when out of warranty it has a U052 'incorrect printhead" error. The printhead is the original and I've always used canon ink cartridges. The Canon service person tells me that if I buy a new print head it will last 3 years. So why didn't the original printhead last 3 years?!
"Canon, please fix the ink cartridge error problem!"
28 May 2008
Pros: Great print quality. Nice dual paper inputs. Easy to use.
Cons: Often cannot read the ink cartridges and therefore will not print or scan or copy. It gets expensive having to replace half-full cartridges! Did not receive help from Canon support during the warranty
Summary: I have had my MP600 about a year. Although I've had my 3rd MP600 far less than a year. Out of the box, it didn't work and was replaced by Canon. It's replacement worked for 2 months and it had to be replaced by Canon. Now the 3ed one keeps telling me the output tray is jammed. Seems like a bad sensor cuz there's nothing there. I'll call Canon again, but why? Great features don't mean much to me when it doesn't work.
Summary: Having lived with this machine for over a year I have come to love and hate it. When it prints, the output is impressive in both B&W and color. When it prints is the catch. It has a very bad habit of not recognizing ink cartridges, even ones used just milliseconds before on a previous print job. It also has issues recognizing paper in the same peculiar fashion. If you have the patience of a Zen master, you will find the MP600 quite rewarding.
Summary: I would love to write a positive review of the Canon PIXMA MP600 - it would mean I hadn't wasted my $100 - but I can't. The problem? It's so slow I can't be bothered to use it. Now, I'm not sure if the problem is in the software or the hardware. (I'm using this with an Intel Mac.) From a user's perspective, though, it really makes no difference. When I want to scan something, I place it on the glass, make sure the unit is "awake" (screen is on), then hit scan.
Summary: I PURCHASED THE PIXMA BASED ON QUALITY AND RELIABILITY OF THE CANON NAME . . . AT FIRST THE UNIT PERFORMED IMPECCABLY . . . NOW, AFTER JUST 6 MONTHS, FOR ME TO GET A CLEAN REPRODUCTION I HAVE TO CLEAN THE INK HEADS BEFORE EACH USE !!! THAT IS A NUISANCE AND A WASTE OF INK !! I WROTE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THE UNIT HEAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED !! AFTER 6 MONTHS ???? I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CANON ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER !!
