Summary: I bought this printer almost three years ago, and it just died this week. For three years, it was reliable and gave no trouble. You will get low ink warnings very quickly, but the ink will last for dozens--if not hundreds--more pages. The scanning bed works well, although the resolution is not sufficient for any high-grade work. I recommend this printer if all you want is an affordable, reliable printer, without all the bells and whistles.
Summary: I owned several Canon PIXMA (MP240 and MP270)during the past two years. They are inexpensive and have two large ink cartridges, one for black and the other for color, which are reasonably priced and last longer than similar Epson or HP cartridges. Other reviewers have described the many features of this scanner/printer. I want to alert the MP240 owners to an error message and solution that is not described in the MP240 printer manual.
Summary: First off, I want to warn everyone that this printer DOES NOT COME WITH A USB CABLE. I even contacted Canon directly and was told that these don't include the USB cable! What a crock--I had to buy a cable before I could even test it! Next, I finally got it going, and after all of the noise of the unit resetting itself several times it, finally, reliably prints out great and at a fast speed.
Summary: its a little noisey and slow but works well but i can tell its going to use ink very fast already if you like to print photos it is very good but uses alot of ink but for the price i could not pass it up it was brand new in box never been used and i won the auction for 30.01
Summary: I have just received my new Pixma 240 and like it very much. Others reviewers have complained about the noise but I do not find it any noisier than my much higher end HP. The paper holder is a bit flimsy but for the price I cannot complain. I can't comment yet on ink usage. Generally I am happy with the product. Easy to set-up with an easy to understand manual. Also the software did not take up much space. Very nice.
Summary: I am very pleased with the printer. It prints very clear & is pretty easy to use. I didn't get a use & care book which I find unhandy. Also I didn't check on the cost of ink for it and it's crazy high--$27 for black & $29 to $31 for color. Time I buy a color cart & a black cart it will be more than I paid for the printer! It's my fault for not checking before hand.
Summary: I received this printer as a freebie when buying a laptop during the 2008 Black Friday sale. For the price, can not beat it. It replaces an older HP Deskjet 5550. The scanner works great and printing on paper is fast. I would not rely on this for photos. The technology today for photo printing is far superior than what this printer has available but then, this printer is not intended for that.
