Conclusion: Great features exactly what I wanted but using features can be cumbersome, too many choices per button on control panel, can be confusing. Tech set up well worth the money. Set up is not designed for novice, can be confusing for even a seasoned user. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. Worst part is setup for the multi-use Tray, and on demand duplex copying. Duplex printing can be controlled in print settings.
Pros: everything you need in one machine, optional high capacity toner cartrage available
Cons: some funtions are cumbersom to use, setup can be confusing, 250 sheet paper tray
Summary: First printer I got malfunctioned about 4 months into it, but I have to say that the Canon Tech Help folks were gems and after couple tries of fixing it via phone directives, they shipped me out a new printer and had easy to follow shipping instructions for my sending them back the dead one--all at no charge to me. The second printer has been working like a charm--although I do not use the wireless function so I can't attest to how good (or not so good) that works.
Summary: My dad runs with the local ambulance service and they needed a new copier, so the researching and hunting for one began. We needed a printer that could print a lot because we do an annual newsletter that results in 6,400 copies in a few days. I chose Canon because I had previous good experience with their products. We have had this printer since May and it has made 12,000 copies since May. It is still working great.
Conclusion: The functionality and quality of the printer is excellent 4-5 stars for sure. The setup process, having to download multiple software programs to use, and heavy drivers, etc., makes this a complicated setup. This is not an plug and play system. But if you can follow instructions, and have some tech intuition, then you will enjoy the product.
Pros: reliable, durable, fast print speed, easy to use
Summary: Very happy with purchase. The print speed and quality is very good. Only annoyance - compared to the prior model, you now have to physically set the printer to scan before you start the scan on the computer, where before you simply started the scan on the computer. It's minor, but annoying, especially being that you didn't have to do this before. It seems like a backwards step for functionality.
Summary: The auto feeding of black and white docs to scan is fast (i set scan to grayscale 100 dpi, which allows handwritten ink to show up well enough on the scan, such as a signature on a document). It's a little frustrating that i have to manually press Scan button on the unit and then manually set it to Remote Scan on the unit before pressing the Scan button on my pc to start the scan, but i've finally developed the habit so it's not much of a bother anymore.
Excerpt: This was a real deal. The machine is very powerful in terms of features. I read several reviews that complain that this is not 'intuitive' or 'simple,' and that is true -- but with the many, many features, there is just no way that this could be a simple machine to set up every feature. Mind you, for copying, faxing scanning and printing, once set up, it is pretty simple. It was not super easy, but I set it up for wireless use quickly and it is great.
Excerpt: Great Multifunction Printer. Prints, copies, & scans faster than most machines in this price range. High resolution copies & scans with small file size (Hi-Compression PDF capability). I took off one star because the printer is more complicated to setup and use than similar machines (due to the number of different settings). If you don't mind spending some additional time setting up and learning to use the machine, add the 5th Star to the Rating.
Pros: Fast, High Quality Copies, High Resolution Scans
