  • Summary: I do a lot of macro photography of small animals. This requires flash. Twin-flash units like this are great as you can control lighting for really attractive results. I used to use a Nikon R1 with an SB800 as controller. I liked it, but it is fiddly, always a bit wobbly, and because the SB800 communicates with the little flashes by preflashing, every exposure is preceded by a prolonged crackle (or more like a tearing sound) of little flashes, causing animals to blink and...
  • Pros: Easy to use, flexible, makes macro photography easy
  • Cons: heavy/large, cannot keep filter on 105 macro lens

  • Summary: I would not enjoy macro photography without this flash. It provides reliable, even illumination that allows me to stop down enough to get a decent DOF for the subject. It also frees me up from the tripod so I miss far fewer shots. I cant say anything negative about this product except maybe it's expensive but that is no secret....
