Summary: This is a great machine except for two things. The toner out light will come on almost all the time unless it is a brand new cartridge. For example you put a new catridge in and one week later it says "out of toner change toner" when in fact there is plenty of toner. Sometimes you will have to shake the cartridge but there is weeks worth of toner still in the cartrige. The menu is also non-intuitive.
Summary: I have this printer and it works well enough, and the toner lasts forever. However, despite being labeled "Mac-compatible," Canon's drivers do no support scanning or two-sided printing. The third-party program Vuescan actually supports the scanner now (for years the answer was a virtual machine or Boot Camp partition running Windows), but that's extra money. It's deceptive to call a product "Mac-compatible" when the Mac functionality is crippled.
Summary: I purchased this in 2009 and it has been working without any problems since then. We use the printing function daily at home. We also use the scanner and copier modes frequently. It has been so much better that the half-dozen ink-jet printers I had gone through over the preceding 10 - 15 years. We change the toner much less often than we changed ink on the old printers. It is fast enough for our needs. I love the automatic document feeder.
Summary: The good: This is an amazing work horse of a printer. Toner cart is about $80 for 2000 copies and if I take the cart out and shake it, I can go 50 pages past the warning. The doc feeder works reliably and the thing is fast. Prints are crisp and perfect absolutely every time. The less good: Doesn't actually scan if used on a mac BTW, Vuescan DOES manage to scan on the mac. hmmmm ). Canon's advertising makes no effort to inform you of this; it is sold as "mac compatible.
Summary: I purchased the Canon MF4150 and it prints great with multiple features including automatic duplexing, ADF scanning, flatbed scanning, faxing, copying, etc. I purchased it in Dec 2008. However, now it has a little problem with the Fuser/fusing assembly. The toner is not getting properly melted onto the paper. I can tell by brushing my finger across the paper and my finger turns black with toner.
Summary: This is a great product. I bought it more than 3 years ago, and it proved its outstanding quality and reliability. Duplex printing and all other features are really necessary. So the money I spent on the printer were spent truly wisely. Thanks, Canon!
Summary: I bought this Canon to replace an inkjet multifunction which had high cost ink, and I rarely used color anyway. Works OK with mac as a printer, but there is no way to get a scanning function with Mac OS, and I've spent hours trying. On the good side, it works well as a stand alone fax and as a copy machine, so it is, at least, not completely useless.
