Conclusion: My last printer was a Canon inkjet which still runs fine after 6 years. But it gradually dawned on me that a laser would have lower operating costs, and other advantages. I wanted another Canon, and was able to get this one at a killer price. It prints much faster than my old printer. The print quality is much better -- really crisp and excellent. And the toner costs are much less. I can also print to it wirelessly from my iPad and iPhone.
Summary: In owning Canon's MF4890dw six weeks, I've used most features: flatbed scan, duplex scan, duplex print, print on an index card, and fax. pro: + easy setup. Wireless setup directs you to online help, but even that only took 5-10 min. + duplex print was worth it alone. + auto-document feeder for scanning is much better than my flatbed scanner. + scanning greyscale is fast. Color goes about the speed of my old flatbed scanner, but black & white scanning is much faster.
Summary: A great multifunction printer, ideal for office use. Laser printing makes this unit very cost effective, as toner is much cheaper than the liquid ink used by inkjet printers. Works with PC and Mac computers. Printing works with Linux, haven't tested the scanner yet. This printer does not support AirPrint, but the Canon Mobile Printing app allows printing from iOS devices. Canon Print Service allows Android apps to print directly to this printer.
Summary: PROS: *Even in normal mode, this is a very quiet printer. Quiet mode makes it practically silent. *Prints very quickly while retaining excellent print quality *Paper tray is easy to load and holds a good amount of paper (about half a ream at a time) *Copier/scanner works well and is easy to operate *The large copier loading tray allows you to copy a large stack of papers *Ink cartridge includes the drum, meaning less printer maintenance down the line (especially useful...
Conclusion: I have not used this faxing, but routinely print and scan with this printer over wireless home network. Works great. Scan function can be slightly tricky but not hard to learn. Setup and user guide doc that comes with printer are top notch. Just moved this printer to a new secure wireless network and had it up and running in 2 minutes. Rock solid machine.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, High Quality Output, fast print speed

Summary: I've had 'em all through the years and this is as good as the best. Had one of the first HP Laser printers then upgraded to the next HP both good work horses and just would not quit. Later installed some Brother Lasers for friends and found them to be good and with good support. This is my second Canon Multi-Function machine and would not have bought it unless I was pleased with the first and their tech support can't be beat by anyone.
