Summary: Pros: Everything works as expected. Con: If you start scanning from the desktop software, you have to first remember to turn on "Remote Scanner" on the printer before it will allow to scan from the network.
Conclusion: Great Printer, and great value for the price. I have a previous model that I bought 4 years ago and its still going. I bought this one because I thought the old one was broken from me dropping it when it actually is fine, so now I have both of them up and running!
Pros: Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, fast print speed
Pros: For the price this a decent all-in-one. I've faxed, printed, and scanned with it. It does all of those tasks well for the price. Quick wakeup and quick first page print.
Cons: They really went cheap on a few parts here. Most notably the paper output tray. It's a little fold out plastic flap that looks like a strong breeze will snap off. Without the flap extended, printed pages just float right out and fall to the table. Really disappointing as the rest of the printer seems fine.
Conclusion: Print quality is high and fast. The network setup wasn't too painful. I run this on a home network with two pcs and a mac and they all can network print without issues. Scan to computer function over the network is a little clumky, it works but it's sometimes can't find computers to scan to. When plugged into USB, scan to works very well. Duplexing ADF is slow, but works well otherwise and was a major selling point.
Pros: Easy Setup, High Quality Output, fast print speed
Summary: Setup of the computer was straight forward. Instructions were easy to follow. There is a learning curve with this printer, as there is with any more sophisticated computing device. I have generated a Word template for printing envelopes and just keep this template available. It did take about four envelopes to get the template correct (font size, position on 8.5 x 11 sheet, understanding the Canon scaling feature, etc.).
Excerpt: I like it, alot. Of course I "graduated" from a color ink-jet from HP that didn't seem to want to do everything I needed it to do as quickly as I wanted it. If the toner cartridge performs for as many pages as it should, it's a definate winner. Did not like the low volume toner provided with the unit when I bought it, but I could not argue with the price. Scanning is great, two sided capabilities, what more could you need.
Summary: I had some scary moments when the printer's software did not work with my Mac's OS 10.9.2. The Canon website does not make it easy to find where you have to go to download the driver software. I eventually found it (thanks to an Apple rep) and the printer works fine so far. Canon should make it more obvious on its website where to find the software, but once found all is forgiven.
Conclusion: First of all, this is an excellent printer for a SOHO. It has fast print speed, wire(less) networking, ADF, and duplexing. It is extremely capable and gets the job done. This printer has some quirks that is leading to some of the negative reviews posted here. Some of the tasks, especially scanning aren't intuitive and not immediately obvious. I dropped a star because of this. I am using a Mac with Mavericks, but have also installed this printer on Windows 7 as well.
Pros: fast, full-featured for soho, Small Footprint
Cons: unintuitive scanning, can't fax over network, eats toner
