Fine if you intend to use USB but wireless network is a pain on OSX 10.9 and Win8.1

Trevor N., Amazon
26 October 2014
  • Summary: Got this printer because my old samsung laser was having problems setting up on wifi. I needed a laser printer with scanning that works over wifi and could be setup on both a Mac (OSX10.9) and a PC (Windows 8.1) and this seemed to fit the bill.

Unsatisfactory

Matthew T. Pope "He-Man", Amazon
26 January 2014
  • Summary: The Canon MF 4890 is disappointing. I have previously owned for about 6 years, the Canon MP 830 multifunction inkjet. I so infrequently use the inkjet, that the cartridges have significantly low life and despite printing almost nothing, I replace cartridges seemingly too frequently.

Not compatible with Windows 8

katytexas, Amazon
19 September 2013
  • Summary: I bought this based on good reviews in Consumer Reports. I have a small business and my computer is running Windows 8. Although this printer somehow worked for the first few weeks I had it, it suddenly stopped and after contacting the manufacturer and spending half the cost of the printer on a tech...

Not so great

clayshooter, Amazon
9 June 2013
  • Summary: It came with a piece missing. So the paper wouldn't feed. Canon did figure out the problem and sent the missing piece. It took 2 weeks to arrive. Not good for a busy office. The ink cartridge must have been a starter cartridge or something because it ran out of ink in 12 days.

Other than that there isn't a whole lot of good things to say

JMB, Amazon
25 April 2013
  • Summary: Well it prints ... sometimes. Other than that there isn't a whole lot of good things to say. Perhaps the biggest problem is its "wireless" feature. Has NEVER been able to maintain recognition of computers to simply print and scanning? Don't get me started!

  • Summary: After using this printer for a couple of months, the dockfeeder on top kept jamming, even with just two pieces of unfolded paper. Everything else works fine (print quality is good and airprint worked great from my Samsung Galaxy phone).

Barely passable as a copier, awful as a scanner

R. Lyubovitzky, Amazon
25 April 2013
  • Summary: Got this combo machine for a home office. Driver installation process is clunky. Make sure you install the toolbox that contains the app for the scanner with the initial installation. It does an OK job as a copier - documents copies lack sharpness. Scanner is awful.

Everything is great with this printer EXCEPT the scanning

Happy Day, Amazon
25 April 2013
  • Summary: I'm giving this a 2-star so people will note. Everything is great with this printer EXCEPT the scanning. At best, scanning feature is terrible. If you have blue ink on your documents, it will scan very faintly. If you have black ink (written by a fine pen), it will also scan faintly.

This printer does copying and printing. It does not ...

DCusa101, Amazon
25 April 2013
  • Summary: This printer does copying and printing. It does not comparable with Windows 10. So, if you upgraded to Windows 10, you are out of luck on the scanning function unless you are willing to pay $49.95 to have the Canon Technician to change the drive for you. (Assuming the printer is out of warranty).

Not reccommended - Confusing setup and instructions

John Mckenzie, Amazon
25 April 2013
  • Summary: As a consultant I find this printer to be the most confusing to setup and use. The instructions are hard to understand. The system is different than most printers. The scanning requires an extra step due to poor design.
