Conclusion: First of all, this is an excellent printer for a SOHO. It has fast print speed, wire(less) networking, ADF, and duplexing. It is extremely capable and gets the job done. This printer has some quirks that is leading to some of the negative reviews posted here. Some of the tasks, especially scanning aren't intuitive and not immediately obvious. I dropped a star because of this. I am using a Mac with Mavericks, but have also installed this printer on Windows 7 as well.
Pros: fast, full-featured for soho, Small Footprint
Cons: unintuitive scanning, can't fax over network, eats toner
Summary: So far, this printer has been a very nice surprise. I have owned it for some weeks now and haven't had a single problem that wasn't my own fault. At first, I was very reluctant because of some negative comments about the printer. But the more I checked on every other printer available in the same price range, the more I convinced myself that I should go with this one.
Summary: Overall it works well, however I want to mention few issues: 1. Scanner resolution of 300dpi is unsatisfactory. It is enough to get readable text but reprinted document looks like low quality fax. 50 page feeder has no use if I need to scan one page at a time on the glass to get 600 dpi resolution. It is very surprising because I can get high quality copies using the same auto feeder???
Summary: The Canon MF 4890 is disappointing. I have previously owned for about 6 years, the Canon MP 830 multifunction inkjet. I so infrequently use the inkjet, that the cartridges have significantly low life and despite printing almost nothing, I replace cartridges seemingly too frequently. These days, I scan a lot, I print very rarely and only print black and white, so a dry-ink option like this was the way to go.
Conclusion: This machine has been very reliable and the tech support team is phenomenal! Very patient and will walk you through one step at a time. Also can clearly understand every word they say! Thanks for the great job! This is the second Canon printer we have purchased and have recommend Canon to many friends.
Scan is taking a long time, if double sided scanning is important, consider another printer
Mermaid T "Mermaid T", Amazon
23 January 2014
Summary: Overall, I do like this printer. I got this all in one printer from Amazon for $180. For the price of it, the unit is definitely worth it. The scan takes about 25-30 seconds per page. If you have a double sided document that you like to scan, well that will take about 1 minute per page. What happened to the buffer? How come the system can't scan to the memory and then transfer over the network?
Summary: This printer is OK for the money. It is loud when it prints, beeps fairly often when it comes in and out of power saving mode. Sheet feed seems OK. It prints fairly fast, Software and support are lousy. Good - Fast printing. Fairly light weight for it's volume with decent handles built into base for lifting. Holds about 200+ sheets of paper in cassette. Front panel tilts up for easier use when printer is on lower table.
Summary: I had to call Canon to set up the printer with my computer and they gave me great support and info. I have had this for a few months and it is working very well. I am very pleased with this unit and would recommend it to others.
Summary: Got this on a Lightning Deal for a very good price, and so glad I did! The printer is awesome! Duplex printing is amazing and for this type of printer, i was surprised at how fast it is. If you're expecting an office, networked environment then maybe you won't be impressed by the speed, but I was (and I worked for decades in a technical field). Now... the only downside is the setup. The quick setup instructions are all pictures.
Summary: Hi, I cannot install its wireless driver on win7 PC, even I do have admin privilge. it sucks! and I only used usb connection before, now I have passed return window. even tried download driver from canon website, doesnt work either.
