Conclusion: Very disappointed on this product. IT is very difficult to set up to send/receive fax using the phone line. Scanning has an error message without error code: "An Error Occurred, Close?", totally don't know how to fix it.
Cons: Difficult to use, Difficult Setup, unreliable
Summary: PROS: *Even in normal mode, this is a very quiet printer. Quiet mode makes it practically silent. *Prints very quickly while retaining excellent print quality *Paper tray is easy to load and holds a good amount of paper (about half a ream at a time) *Copier/scanner works well and is easy to operate *The large copier loading tray allows you to copy a large stack of papers *Ink cartridge includes the drum, meaning less printer maintenance down the line (especially useful...
Conclusion: I have not used this faxing, but routinely print and scan with this printer over wireless home network. Works great. Scan function can be slightly tricky but not hard to learn. Setup and user guide doc that comes with printer are top notch. Just moved this printer to a new secure wireless network and had it up and running in 2 minutes. Rock solid machine.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, High Quality Output, fast print speed
Excerpt: Seems like a good printer so far. Setup was fairly easy. Even set it up to print wirelessly was not a problem. Installed software. All worked. Then checked to see if there was updates for firmware and software, which there was. Did firmware update wirelessly with no problems. Software updates required that I uninstall the current version before I could install the updates. Wish Canon took care of all that automatically, rather than me having to uninstall.
Excerpt: Not happy, not good for printing checks. It is hard to use and change format. The default auto duplex feature creates extra steps if you have most of your prints one sided only. We created a specific settings to fit our printing needs, but if you stop using that for a few minutes, the printer changed it back to the default, instead of staying on the last settings. So each time we want to print, we have to change the setting first.
Excerpt: I have owned a couple of dozen lazer printers, including several Canons. This is my last Canon product ever. I have had the 4890 for three months and am very unhappy The problem is the design. Two sided printing is the default and it is very hard to change. Why isn't two sided an option? Why isn't there a really simple and clear way to switch between one and two sided. I have researched this and it is a common complaint. Scanning is a bit of a pain and fairly slow also.
Summary: Pros: Everything works as expected. Con: If you start scanning from the desktop software, you have to first remember to turn on "Remote Scanner" on the printer before it will allow to scan from the network.
