Excerpt: The New Brother MFC-J870dw Inkjet All-in-One Printer by Brother, purchased last week, (needed badly for tax forms), prints only word and excel documents. Turbo tax forms or PDF files had to be saved on thumb drive and carried somewhere else to print This is totally unacceptable. I bought this unit to save money on ink, but it does not function properly, even after loading the software twice. Now what do I do? Oh, I know, buy more printer ink for old reliable.
Excerpt: Prior to this printer, I owned a Canon. I absolutely loved it and it's been the best printer I've owned to date. It served me quite faithfully for three years before it ultimately died. If it wasn't discontinued, I would've bought another. Relative to that printer, this Brother printer is garbage. I've never experienced a paper jam until now. It isn't even a once in awhile occurrence. If I have a long print job, there's going to be a paper jam - I guarantee it.
Excerpt: I have owned dozens of printers and this, hands down, is the worst. It consistently grabs several sheets of paper at a time and jams frequently. The colors look faded and unprofessional. There are much better printers for the price.
Summary: Save yourself the hassle and keep looking for a more reliable printer. I have had it for 2 MONTHS and in that time it has been problematic saying paper jam, when there was no paper jam, and making it very difficult to reset and run properly. It finally just refused to work saying paper jam again after hours spent trying to "unjam" (there is no paper jam) or reset.
Summary: This is the most troublesome printer I have ever owned. It will not print from windows photo viewer and the Brother photo package provides iffy results at best. It is prone to jams and feed failures and it took literally days to get it to make copies on photo paper. I finally called tech support and got someone who obviously knew very little about the product, but insisted on going through all the items on his check list.
Summary: I was so excited to purchase this printer. It appeared to do some pretty amazing things, things my old printer did not do. This honeymoon lasted all of a month. Paper jams became the problem. FREQUENT paper jams. It didn't matter if I was trying to print single sided or double sided, the paper would jam. Calling customer support was frustrating at best. He tried to imply it was the paper. I was eventually sent a refurbished printer which worked well for about a month.
Broken upon arrival - BROTHER customer service failed to deliver

Summary: Bought printer via Amazon.com based on reviews. Rec'd the printer and set it up per the enclosed instructions. Printer was not recognizing the factory provided LC101 "starter" black ink cartridge. Tried removing and reinserting multiple times and still got a CANNOT DETECT message. I had a factory new (Brother brand) LC103 high yield black ink cartridge I had bought as a spare and decided to try it. Printer still could not DETECT the cartridge.
