Serves it's purpose well as a color laser all in one
5 June 2011
Summary: I am very pleased with the MFC-9840cdw,it replaces a brother inkjet that lasted for years BUT the price of ink was too much, I think the ink dries out if not used frequently, the laser does not have that issue. It operates very well, it takes a little while to print out first page (45 secs.
Summary: I've been using a combination of an HP2600n color laser, a Samsung ML-2250 B&W laser, a Canon scanner, and a Fujitsu ScanSnap for a couple of years. The 2600n sucked toner like mad, the Samsung works fine but is black & white only, the ScanSnap wouldn't work with Vista x64 when I bought a new computer, and the Canon was strictly one image at a time.
Excellent Value. Tips to improve color accuracy and extend toner life.

Summary: Out-of-the-box color accuracy is poor. By default, the PCL driver for the printer will barely print green, and other colors are noticeably skewed toward yellow. This problem can be largely fixed by tweaking a few settings. Here are the basics: 1. Verify that the printer driver, firmware, and internal calibration are all current. This information is available at the Brother website. 2.
Summary: What do I like about it? It's a color laser, it's wireless and the ADF is duplex for both scanning and copying. What don't I like about it? The cost of the consumables (toner, drum), but then that's how all the vendors make their money on these things. The PaperPort scan software is good and I use it to scan manuals and convert them to .PDF, then OCR them.
Summary: I have owned this MFC for about a month now, and it exceeds my expectation for the cost. The PROS are that this unit is well packaged (albeit heavy), easy to set up, and does what it says it will do. I have used all of the functions and they all work. The warm up time from sleep (or off) to function is acceptable, and once warmed up, it is very fast. The footprint is fairly small (mine sits on my filing cabinet) and the menu is easy to read and understand.
Hands Down, the best multi-function printer for the Mac

Summary: This printer/scanner/fax/copy machine is pretty darn awesome. It's sometimes tough to find things that work so well with the Mac, but the features built in and the software included is as good as it gets. I liked it so much, that I purchased a second one for a client of mine in my office as a gift. I wish the price was about $100 cheaper, but even for the current price it's worth it (just makes it hard to buy more then one).
Summary: Comments about Brother MFC-9840CDW Multifunction Printer: As far as all in one printers, this one has it all, duplex printing, fax, copy, scan and it's a laser printer from Brother. I didn't have much trouble setting it up, it does require administrative access to install since you have to bypass the firewall, but I'm in IT and that works out without a problem. On the downside, it's quite slow compared to other printers that we've had. 16ppm is slow these days.
Summary: Over the years I had acquired a printer for every task -- an inkjet for color, a multifunction for black and white printing and faxing, a laser printer that I had configured to print checks (yup - that's all I used it for!) and a high quality inkjet for photographic printing. Now I only have the high quality photo inkjet and this new Brother 9840CDW.
Summary: Replaced an Okidata 5150n with this even though I was very happy with the Oki. Consumable cost, by my calculations, should be about half as much because it combines the toner and drum in one piece. I personally liked the slightly more glossy looking print of the Oki. This one is much more flat and colors are slightly off. Overall, though, the print quality is excellent. I thought the Oki was fast before and this one is much faster overall.
