Toner Issues / Completely Gave out after 15 months

Michael, Amazon
29 May 2014
  • Summary: Purchased this printer a bit over a year ago and it completely quit working last week (No Error, the screen simply said 'replace toner'...we replaced the toner...nothing...we replaced the toner again...nothing). Similar to a lot of the other reviews, this printer is extremely ink hungry and will completely stop printing if it only needs replacement of one cartridge (There are four cartridges that continuously need changing - Our business probably wasted $100 - $200 /...

The machine toner sensor is defective or it is designed to sell toner.

Bud P., Amazon
14 February 2014
  • Summary: I have only used the black ink part to any extent. After very little use, the printer stopped and the message that it was out of toner appeared. I replaced the black unit and after approximately 65 copies the printer again stopped working and showed that it was out of black toner. In both cases my copies were fine. Clearly, the printer is faulty or designed to sell toner.

Eats Toner like Candy

Striveon "athletic person", Amazon
11 March 2013
  • Summary: My wife is a teacher and makes handouts for her classroom. We got tired of the constant software updates and fragile feeder on Office Ink Jet Printer and opted for Brother as we have had good luck with our Brother label printer. What a mistake! Going from Inkjet to Laser we were expecting lower cost per page with the laser. This printer is lucky to get 1000 pages before one of the toner cart runs out. The printer really gives you no advance warning and refuses to print.

NOT For Envelopes

Paul Evans, Amazon
6 February 2013
  • Summary: Do not buy this if you need to print envelopes. They need to be fed Manually ... ONE at a time. Even feeding carefully one at a time, frequently get a paper jammed message ... which it seems can only be resolved by turning it off and on. Feeding envelopes through the regular paper tray is not supported. Am now trying to print about 50 envelopes via MS Word mail merge ... complete nightmare. Is fine for printing on regular paper.

Don't waste your money

BundlerBob, Amazon
7 January 2013
  • Summary: Nothing works properly. Have purchased Brother faxes & printers only, for over 20 years. This model represents a NEW LOW for BROTHER - Won't take thicker than average paper & can't feed it straight. Don't think I will consider another Brother product in the future.

Oh dear

Mary S. Stowell, Amazon
17 November 2012
  • Summary: This looked so good and has quickly shown its flaws. The main trouble I have had in the two months I have owned it is that the slot for feeding documents for double sided printing consistently sends a message that there is a paper jam, when there is none. To fix this you have to open the lid, lift out each of the color cartridges and then replace them, and then the phantom "jam" is cleared. This gets very tiresome after the 10th time or so.
