Summary: I bought this printer in 2010 for medium duty and it has worked out fine. The comments about eating the toner cartidges quickly are very true, as the process Brother uses to determine when a toner cart is near empty is terrible. However, there is a way to manually reset all the toner cartridge levels I found on another site, and have used several times. It almost doubles your toner cart life, see below.
Summary: This is the 2nd one of these that I bought. The first one got hit by lightning. I'm pretty happy with it; I think the print quality could be better but I think they are cheaper to run than an inkjet.
Great home office A-I-O for modererate volume use, few and minor drawbacks
9 April 2012
Summary: Advantages: 1. Economical 2. Changing toner cartridges is a breeze. 3. All In One capability 4. Lots of options for scanning to file. Disadvantages: 1. Refuses to print shortly after toner low warning, but long before toner is empty. Override will allow continued printing until pages fade, but the procedure for override is not in the manual. Had to find it online. 2. Manual page feeder is single sheet only. 3. Manual page feeder is tempermental.
Summary: So far this machine has been great. Not a single jam, print quality has been excellent, and its done everything I've asked it to. The only thing i dont like is that if its been idle for a bit it takes about 10 seconds to start printing something so if you need something printed within 10 seconds then i guess you are out of luck. Once printing starts the pages fly by.
Summary: The color print is great, faxing out is fast and efficient and the printing is good as well... however, I have yet to get the distinctive ring feature to work when receiving faxes. I have called support, read the manual over and over and still cannot get it to work. I have to manually connect incoming faxes. I am disappointed since my old HP fax was easy to set up to receive faxes using my distinctive ring feature. Other than this one complaint, the product is very good.
Summary: This printer is a great value if you're looking for a light duty printer. It's ideal for a home office or small office with a limited number of users. I replaced an Okidata printer with this one and the difference in construction and consequentlly weight is striking. I suspect it will not stand up to the same level of wear and/or abuse as the Okidata. But at less than half the price it's a great all-in-one.
Summary: Needed a network laser color printer and this one was in my price range. It was bigger than what I had expected, but I was able to make it work. Great print quality, printer is fast, scans work great. I wish it had duplexing but for the price I couldn't complain. Great printer works as expected and I have had no issues with it. I recommend it.
Summary: It seems like a solid machine. pages do come out a bit curly, but I think you'd have to get a MASSIVE printer (i.e. the one you've got in your enterprise office) to completely avoid curlage. envelope printing & manual feeding is a bit temperamental, as so far I've had to apply a little pressure (a "nudge" if you will) to get envelopes through, otherwise the printer seems to "slip" on the envelopes and thinks there's a jam. Perhaps that's just my unit.
Summary: Easy to set up and very good quality prints. Haven't had it long enough to try all the features yet, i.e. fax or scan. Copying does very well - auto fee multiple copy function is nice to have. I just wish it doesn't feel and look so flimsy.
Summary: This is a fine printer for a couple dozen pages every few days. Setup is easy it works fine as a color copier. Prints, Faxes, Copies straight out of the box and it works with all the OSes I use. Things to note about this is it's a Brother. I work with hundreds of printers day in and day out, maybe thousands in my life. This printer behaves just as I would expect from a Brother.
