It won't last long enough to justify the price. Go with another brand.

Summary: Was great while it worked, which wasn't for very long. I only print about 100 pages a week and within less than a year the machine had issues. First, it crinkles the paper as it came out. Then after 2 hours on the phone with Tech Support they sent out a technician. Tech replaced the malfunctioning part. A week later the same issue started to occur again. Another 2 hours on the phone with Tech Support and they sent out another tech.
Excerpt: We are three people in a home office and we print about 1000 pages a month, and scan a great deal. I have this printer one week and it is a pleasure!! Easy installation, easy to learn and what a pleasure to finally have a great pinter!
Summary: So far, we love this machine. I have a small law office, and this machine has adequate capacity to handle all of our needs. We have only had it up and running for about three weeks, so we will see how it does with durability and longevity. I have only two criticisms: 1. The length of time it takes to connect to our network. When I press "scan to network" it will take up to 40 seconds to connect. This is not a big deal, but our old machine did this much more quickly.
Excerpt: It's fast on the scanning which I love and saves me valuable time. I've only had it about 4 weeks but it's been working well. It is a big machine though. The 2 trays are not really trays, one is a 500 ream tray and the is exposed and just holds some paper. Overall, a good machine.
Excerpt: We have found this line up of Brother printers to be advantageous to our particular needs. Part of our requirement it to have a laser printer in order to print payroll checks. We started with a Brother laser printer several years ago and still have the original printer in service (although it keeps reminding us that there is a need to replace major internal parts). We currently have 4 Brother printers in the offices.
Summary: Got this model to print orders in our office which are on 8.5x14 paper. Had a very unusual issue with printing that Brother support was not able to help me with. When printing a job that had "user defiined" as the paper size the printer would default to the MP Tray no matter what setting was in the driver software or the printer hardware settings. I had both set to only use tray 1.
Summary: Love the high capacity toner option. Speed is OK at best. Had to reset networking on the unit once after about 2 months, networking started having intermittent outages and then complete failure. Reset on the front panel of printer quickly, reconfigured and it has worked perfectly ever since. No driver issues like HP and Dell have had in the last couple of years.
Brother Printer does not work with iMac because Brother does not have new drivers for OS 10.10

Summary: All my brother printers (I have bought five) have been good to great. As is this MFC8950DW -- at least as far as I can tell. You see, I bought it for my Apple Office. We have three 26" iMac, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. WE upgraded everything to OS 10.10 about the same time as we ordered the printer through Amazon. Made this clear when we spoke to Amazon and also brother -- getting to talk to a live human being at Brother is becoming more and more time consuming.
