Consumer grade

Anonymous, Newegg
4 October 2008
  • Summary: This is a consumer grade multi function printer. If your looking for a nice printer/scanner that is networkable, this is a good machine.
  • Pros: Nice printer, fair scanner. WiFi works great, but hard wire network is faster. Can scans to PDF and sends to FTP, or to file. More scan features are available if using the USB. I don't have a land line, so I don't actually use the fax stuff, but looks like all then nice fax features are there. Go...
  • Cons: Don't take my cons too seriously, I like the printer, but my expectations we're a little high. Printer settings via web or from printer is ok, but not the best. It can be a little hard to figure out and the help sucks. Scanner is a little slower that I wish it was. If you remember this is a consu...

Awesome for a small business

Anonymous, Newegg
18 August 2008
  • Summary: If you need a basic office workhorse, this thing will be your friend. Works great, faxes well, and gets the job done. OSX friendly, and works well in our mixed office. Even the tech guys like and use it.
  • Pros: Low ink consumption, decent osx support, easy setup, good scanner that doesn't jam: office workhorse on a budget. The wireless printing is VERY useful, and it's been hooked up via mac, windows and linux by the folks in the office - works pretty well...
  • Cons: Software that ships with this unit is pretty bad, same as all other brother options - seems that osx support is also a little lacking - we have weird issues with stuff not working occasionally when it was or should be.

What you should know before you buy a Brother

C. Badgett, Amazon
11 August 2008
  • Summary: I have owned the MFC-9420CN, but you might want to read this before purchasing any Brother printer. I have had this machine for about a year it cost over $1,000 and is suppose to be for business.

Rick Kenyon, Amazon
10 August 2008
  • Summary: This printer is reliable and heavy-duty. Our business has had good response from technical support in wireless issues with our printer. The end result has been a total success.

Great Features but some reliability issues

S. McCarthy, Amazon
10 August 2008
  • Summary: For the past 1 1/2 I have purchased several of these brother MFC machines, including the MFC 8870DW. As one other person indicated, the Brother printers seem to have a flaw with the paper tray and periodically they will stop working and click. A call to Brother does not resolve the problem.

Great All in One Printer!

C. Mann, Amazon
31 July 2008
  • Summary: I bought a similar model to this one at Costco, model MFC-8670DW. As far as I can tell it has the exact same features and specs as the MFC-8870DW, but I only paid $349.99 ($399.99 with a $50 mfr rebate).

  • Summary: Solid performance long term with the Brother MFC line as we have used one for years. This one offers wireless printing as well as wired network printing. Easy setup for either networking.

Almost perfect but for consumable costs

Atlas Bugged, Amazon
19 July 2008
  • Summary: I'm a fanatic for duplexing since I move a LOT of paper around, sometimes amounts which I have to carry to court or mail and which weigh several pounds. The Brother is one of the better machines for the price that handles duplexing well, maybe even the best.

Great Printer, Horrible Customer Service

B. Lambert, Amazon
7 July 2008
  • Summary: The MFC is great with double sided printing and wireless capability, but there does not exist enough expletives to describe Brother's customer service. Thus: Printer = 5 stars, Customer Service = -10 stars. Setup was quick and easy and printed well. But mine had a problem making copies.
