Summary: Setup: What I like about this MFC is that it can operate both locally and over a network; what I also like about this is that you can receive faxes directly to your PC, thereby saving paper! However, what I discovered is that if you want to receive faxes to your PC AND operate the MFC over a network, you must first install the software as a local device then install as a network device..
Summary: Easy to use, consistant production, well-built, fast black laser net work printer. Clear, well-defined letters and black/white/grayscale graphics. I use this at home and have pumped about 20000+ pages throught it. I can only remember 3 paper jams in nearly two years of use and this was due to using some really poor quality paper. I suspect that the newer version model numbers are equally well functioning units. I'll stay with Brother products in the future.
Summary: Machine started making loud grinding noises when started or while printing. Showed it to a repair shop, says the fuser is a toast. Replacement cost part and labor $300. Died just after one year so have to bear the expense. Poor design/quality. Beware, i searched the web and looks like i am not the only one with this problem.
Summary: This machine has fulfilled everything I wanted--speedy scanner, speedy copies, fax and computer printer. The outfit I bought it from through Amazon sent the wrong one and were very easy to work with in rectifying the error. The original ink cartridge only lasted one month, or about 1000 pages; jury is out on that. There are only three things that are drawbacks for my usage.
Summary: I have used this machine for a few months now, but have not made use of all possible features. However, this is what I can say: * basic copying, fax, scanning -- Excellent * scanning with character recognition -- Excellent but would prefer to have options ala OmniPage * duplex printing(printing on both sides) -- Very Good, except the menu digging is ackward * build quality and overall performace -- Excellent, prints fast, few jams, feels very sturdy * ease of use -- very...
Summary: Great printer/fax/scan/copy machine. Had it for 1.5 years before I tried to set up the scan software. Was very frustrated but Kathy at the Brother help dsk for Mac's was great. Am satisfied completely with machine and service. Note: when you get low toner warnings - take the cartridge out and gently shake it back and forth - reload and it will last quite a bit longer.
Summary: I've had the MFC-8840DN for about 8 months now. I bought it because it packs a lot of features for the price, and the reviews I found were quite good. Overall, it's a decent printer for the price, but it's somewhat unreliable. The problems are tolerable in a home environment but I would not recommend this printer for a workplace. It has two major annoying habits.
Summary: This is a poorly designed device and it does not work as advertised. (Gave it 1 star since you cannot give it 0 stars.) Items that do not work as advertised: 1) document feed chokes at more than 20 pages. 2) double sided copying is a joke - the LCD coaches you to manually turn over the pages - this is NOT done automatically as is the case with most double sided copying. 3) USB connection does not work with Windows XP media edition.
