Summary: Brother All-in-ones were recommended to me and the machine does well with straight copying, faxing, etc.; however, I need to print a quantity (250) envelopes for a bulk mailing. I wanted to do this on the Brother machine from my computer. Well...the machine will only print up to 4 envelopes at a time. So, I'm back to hand feeding a copy machine.
Overall ok but u had to spend money to make it work properly.

Summary: The model I bought doesn't properly work. It only works on the USB A to B wire. It doesn't work on the network. I think the network card is bad! It's unfortunate. If I could return it I would have. Other than that it works nice.
Summary: I run a small law office. Had an HP and decided to go Brother 8480DN because of the reviews and rising pride of HP for their toner. The toner for this unit is not too expensive if you buy aftermarket, and just find a quality supplier. This is a good little machine, but 15 months into ownership the fax machine quit working. Was going to cost almost as much to fix as it was to just buy a new one.
Summary: Updated 2/8/2013 PROS: Fast and acceptable black text quality printing. Relatively inexpensive compatible laser toner cartridges available for less than $20. I have been able to purchase DR-620 replacement drums that work for less than $30 each. This is VERY cheap. For the amount of use we put our system through (about 50-100 pages a DAY) this puppy really can take a beating and keep on ticking. The 1 year Brother warranty is pretty darn good.
Summary: I've purchased Brother printers for many years and have been satisfied with their performance. However, this last one I purchased had a nearly dry toner cartridge. I've barely gotten 50 copies out of it. That is unacceptable to me. The seller of this product should be checking their storage dates to insure that there is a viable and productive toner cartridge. Now I have to purchase a new one!
Summary: Bought the Brother MFC8480DN 4-1 unit in October 2011 and have used it for six weeks. Overall it's not bad. I really like the duplex feature where it will print double-side on both, standard and legal paper. Print dettails are not as good as that of an equivalent inkjet printer. The function that is very annoying is the printer's inability to handle envelopes properly from its MP tray especially especially the one that is ubiquitous in correspondence - the #10 envelope.
Summary: I just received this MFC yesterday and was dismayed to find that I needed an ethernet and/or USB cable to install it. Neither was included with the MFC. It was not made clear in the description that these would be needed. Fortunately I already had a USB cable and a friend had an extra ethernet cable so I was able to install the MFC right away. I wanted to make others that may be ordering this aware of it. Other than that, the installation went smoothly.
Summary: The printing is very good but I bought the machine also because the specifications said it would print envelopes. 1. You can load only 3 envelopes at a time: hardly useful for mass mailings. 2. The envelopes come through the machine so crinkled they are unuseable. 3. Worse, the heat from the printer seals the flaps on the envelopes!!! Brother puts out good products but who allowed this one to pass through the inspection process and onto the market?
Summary: I like this machine OK Set up is OK - I had a challenge scanning multiple pages at one shot and it mangles my high end envelopes even though it has a straight through feed. The scan interface is underwhelming. IT is OK . If I were buting again I would try something different. Maybe I will get better at driving it with time.
