  • Summary: It's no HP. I have been spoiled by HP products; but this printer was cheap for the features it offers, so I bought it. Normally, with a HP printer, you put the installation disc in and keep clicking next. On the newer HP printers you don't even have to do that. They pick up the wireless signal for you. With the Brothers, I had to hurt my brain to set it up for wireless. I had to figure out what an access point is; how to turn the WLAN on; etc.

Good printer but not reliable with faxing or scanning functions.

pistolpete6331, Ebay
10 May 2014
  • Summary: I was optimistic about this purchase since I have had pretty good experience with Brother printers, and hoped this would work well as a pre-owned less expensive purchase. It was billed as "lightly used" and fully tested. The printing functions are solid, with very good print quality. and a long time between ink cartridge changes. The major downfall of this printer is the unreliable feeding mechanism which is not currently allowing me to fax or scan documents.

Printing problems; not Airprint enabled!

Whirlwind SC, Staples
24 October 2013
  • Excerpt: I purchased this machine to be able to print wirelessly (wireless printer, right?); however, I discovered after purchase that it will not easily print from iPhone or iPad; one must first install a free app (iPrint and Scan), and even then, I can only print from Websites, PDF, or photos. Can't print Notes at all or email unless I use their server, find my email, then log into my email through their server, locate on the tiny screen (I am 65 years old, for heaven's sake!
  • Pros: Easy Setup From Computer, Efficient, Fast
  • Cons: Devices Iphone Ipad

Okay Printer

Ricostar, Officemax
3 September 2013
  • Excerpt: I mainly bought the printer for my iPad. It was not easy like the Canon, which I had to return, to wireless print. I had to call Brother and go through name, rank and serial number to get any information! I was then transferred to an Indian lady and had to go through part of the same thing again. If the information she is going to email me to download does not work, I am returning the printer! I don't like to pay big money and have to go through a big hassle.
  • Pros: Features

Love the printer. HATE THE NAGWARE!

Donald P., Newegg
13 July 2013
  • Pros: This printer, together with the Brother software, delivers everything I want for light office use, as advertised. In general, I find it an exceptional value.
  • Cons: I HATE THE NAGWARE! Though I use genuine Brother toner cartridges, it seems as if it begins to tell you CONSTANTLY to replace your toner cartridge when you still have at least 50% life. The nagware even interferes with the printer's function, particularly its scanner. I have run my current cartridge for the last four months with the nagware, longer than I ran it without, and still have not replaced the toner. No need.
