Excerpt: My husband did all the researching when it came to buying our new printer. I am a bit technologically challenged so I figured I would not use it much - I was wrong - I love it and it is so easy to use! I have no problem making copies, scanning documents, printing pages or even "duplexing". It really does so many things (I'm sure some of which I have not even yet discovered). The Brother MFC-784W All-In-One Laser Printer was also very affordable.
Excerpt: Before purchasing this printer, my husband and I did a lot of research, reading reviews from consumers and consumer reports/magazines, etc. This printer received rave reviews everywhere (with an occasional angry review) Let me save you some time: this printer is amazing and deserving of the praise it has received. Print quality is clear and professional, even the toner save mode print quality is great.
Excerpt: The Brother MFC-7840W is a totally awesome printer! My husband bought it on sale, and we have been totally happy with it. This printer is truly multi functional. It has a paper feed on top to load sheets in that you wish to copy, or you can use the copy screen like a standard photo copier. I've successfully photocopied letters, ID, passports, and other important papers, and they come out great. You can adjust the dark/light level depending on what you need.
Summary: Like some of the other reviewers, it took me a while to get it set up and "talking" to my other computers on the wireless network. I have one computer on XP and another on Vista and I had to overcome different problems for each one so don't give up. Now that it's all set up, it works exactly the way I need it to. I am a graduate student and print out lots of documents, articles and data as well as my own research articles.
Pros: Features for the price, print speed, print quality, network connection, easy to use, works well on PC and Mac
Cons: Slow scanning at high resolutions, insufficient memory to scan full letter-size sheet at maximum resolution, some plastic parts feel flimsy, instructions are a bit difficult to follow, and do not match the current version of the software.
