I still have an HP b&w printer from 20 years ago that prints fine. Won't buy another Brother printer

D. Ross, Amazon
2 April 2015
  • Summary: I had this printer for 4 years; used it very little as I avoid wasting paper. Then one day it died. I took it to an authorized Brother dealer who said the machine had become e-waste and could not be salvaged. If I printed a couple of thousand pages in 4 years, that's tops.

Great Printer, Horrible Networking

Manas Thakrar, Amazon
24 January 2011
  • Summary: I bought this printer after reading all the rave reviews. My primary goal was to get an all-in-one laser printer with wireless capability. At first the printer setup was a breeze and I was really excited. The printer quality as well as scan qualities were excellent.

prone to jam. can't they just make these better

R. Singer, Amazon
22 March 2010
  • Summary: I've owned a sequence of Brother MFC's over the last 10+ years. Unfortunately, the older ones were the best. My last few ones (including the 7840w which I just bought) have been prone to jam. The worst are the duplex ones (I just tossed one of these for the 7840w).

Toner... Toner... Toner

Out of Toner, Amazon
29 December 2009
  • Summary: I set up the machine for my small home network, connected to a router instead of directly to a pc. If you are running any of your computers wireless and use a firewall then pour yourself a drink and settle in for the night because this configuration will take you a while.

Defective product with bureaucratic customer service

Mark Twain, Amazon
13 October 2008
  • Summary: I had high hopes for this product after reading the positive reviews here. Unfortunately it was defective out of the box. There seems to be a known issue with a toner cartridge error: the sensor fails to read that the cartridge is full.
