Summary: I had been an HP OfficeJet buyer for ... oh, must be more than a decade now. Their scanners never (truly, never) worked correctly for me, and I always felt that there must be a better product. So when my last OfficeJet failed, I searched intensively for a replacement with features that were comparable or superior to HP. I landed on this Brother machine. Pros first: The size of the machine is great. It is a handsome unit. It is marvelously affordable.
Summary: . Brother MFC-6890CDW Professional Series Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax with Duplex Printing and Wireless Networking The Brother MFC-6890CDW is what I had expected from reviews that I had read. The only thing that does not meet my expectations is the very slow speed that it prints envelopes.
Summary: If you're printing 11x17 text heavy, the 850 pages is a laugh, only it's not funny having to buy more and more ink. Color is good running directly from the computer to the copier, but I'm not doing professional work, either. I just needed the copies to look decent. It did get me out of a jam (and I've returned the favor a few times) when I needed some 11x17 copying in a hurry.
Summary: On January 11, 2011 bought from Amazon a Brother 6890 CDW. Price was good (paid $299.00 on amazon sale), packaging was good, amazon delivered quickly and setup was okay. Bought the 6890 to to do a 7 page, 11 by 17 two sided sheet membership directory that we folded in half and stapled as a booklet. Got it all set up, then printed guinea pig 2 sided sheets on letter, legal and ledger size paper, no problems. One each 11 by 17 two sides took 81 seconds.
Summary: I have been waiting awhile for a `B' size scanner/ printer combo and purchase this one. Like some of the reviews posted so far I have mixed feeling for this machine. The pro's are: 11x17 scanning and printing, fax works good, double sided printing (only on letter or legal size). Scanner is one of the quicker units that I have used. Printing time seems reasonable. The con's are: - Print quality is good, not great.
Summary: I purchased this machine so I could produce newsletters on ledger paper and while I was up, running and had an issue printed in about 30-minutes, the results were disappointing. I'd printed the newsletter on my HP 6500 AIO and the color rendition between the two machines is dramatic; the Brother is faded and one-dimensional while the HP is true and eye-popping.
Summary: I've had multiple HP all-in-ones previously and was going to get another one until I read the great reviews about this one. I like it, it's a nice machine, lightweight, nice size, does a decent job of printing and is very easy to assemble and set up initially. The auto feeder works well without jamming. It's easy to figure out how to do basic things like printing, copying, etc., without needing a manual.
Summary: I had to contact Brother 2 times to get my printer set up wirelessly. Nothing they did and had me do worked. I then had a computer technician come over and he couldn't get it to work. I even contacted Verizon Fios and they gave me all I needed (which I already had) and it still didn't work. I had the proper wire to connect the printer to my router. I use my Brother Lazer printer more than I use this machine so can't really comment on how long the ink lasts.
Excerpt: At the end of the day, I figured out that I had wasted $230 on this printer. There’s no good reason why one would buy this printer. In case you need to print ledger sized documents, I would understand it if you bought this since there are not many alternatives for that out there. However, I know that most people don’t print documents larger than 8.5 x 1″, so I would recommend any other printer (such as the Canon Pixma MX860) rather than this for regular every day use.
Summary: We bought this becasue it was a wireless unit and boy was it a pain in the butt to set up. Initially we had a cable modem and it seemed like weekly I would have to call my cable co. to figure out was was the best setting for it. Then we moved and had DSL again. Not as tricky this time around to set up well I think the hours of frustration prior to this helped that affair.
