Summary: Horrendously inefficient at ink. When the ink cartridge is about half full, it will say it's out of ink. Even worse, it doesn't do black & white printing without requiring all 3 color cartridges to be full.
Summary: Sure, when you first open it up and use it it feels like the best thing in the world, but this machine and perhaps all Brother MFCs have secret flaws that unveil overtime. First of all, it will not print B/W if you don't have ALL the color ink install (maybe all printers behave like this, I don't...
Summary: I would strongly recommend that the buyer truely beware of refurbished products. The company that refurbishes them "Doesn't" test them thoroughly. Copy/Scan/photo works great but the fax is locked up. That was my main purpose of purchasing this device so I don't have to go out and fax.
Summary: Purchased this all-in-one almost a year ago. Works fine as long as I have lots of ink on hand. Even with a full black ink cartridge, if any of the other ink cartridges are empty (yellow, blue or red), you cannot copy, print or receive faxes in black and white.
Summary: I bought this printer back in February 2005 and it has been the biggest ink hog ever. I buy a lot of printers for my business, but I really needed an all in one that had a good automatic scanner and would print photos from my memory card.
Great for busy offices...but occasional use only can cause problems.

Excerpt: After owning this the Brother MFC 5840CN inkjet all-in-one printer for over 2 years, I have decided now is the time to upgrade to another model. Whilst this printer coped well as not only my printer, but my photo-copier and scanner aswell, it was plagued with problems from day one.
