Summary: The Bad part was the prinrter didnt work. I would not print . after only one email to the sender he told me it was in storage of a while and he should have checked it out first. I have to say he was prompt in his relply and took care of this problem. For this I thank you. In the furture dont sale anyting without making sure it works or not.
Summary: This is a nice printer - with one deal-breaker: It uses an insane amount of ink to clean itself!! I print color copies very infrequently as I also have an HP Laser printer on the same network. I use the HP for 99% of my printing (and I don't even use the HP that often!) The Brother MFC 5440 cn cleans itself so often that it uses up cartridges with which I have only made 6 or fewer color prints with!!
Summary: In case you don't believe the rest of the reviewers, this printer is HORRENDOUS!!!! Brother has done a great job at creating a scam with their ink cartridges. Hopefully, people have caught on and have decided to ditch this piece of JUNK! My ink cartridges were still semi full when the printer prompted me to change cartridges...like an idiot and because I needed to print, I went to the store and bought cartridges for $50!
Summary: This printer was very frustrating...until I figured out how to "beat the system". When I could not figure out why the color cartridges kept running out,(when we don't EVER print anything in color) I called Brother technical support to no avail. They pretty much told me that the color cartridges were (somehow) used in the spooling process, so they had to be full in order for any of the features to work properly. Then I had an idea.
Summary: This printer seems great at first, but will annoy you to death in the long term. The main issues are: 1) -NOTHING- on the printer works once the printer is out of ink. You can't send faxes, scan, or print B+W if any one of the ink colors is out. 2) The printer believes ink cartridges are empty long before they are. I have just removed a yellow cartridge with at least 1/3 of the ink left which the printer refuses to use.
Summary: I'm not exactly sure why the "Spotlight" reviews for this printer are so positive. Take everyone else's word for it - This printer sucks. I made the mistake of buying 5440 and the 5840 for my business. I can deal with all the paper jams just fine. But the one thing that makes these printers terrible is how alarmingly often you will have to buy printer cartridges for this machine. Make no mistake - this is a money pit.
