Junk

Will S., Newegg
26 December 2008
  • Summary: Get another printer.
  • Pros: Good quality printing. Networkable. Card reader is built in.
  • Cons: If out of one color, you can't print, fax, or scan until that cartridge is replaced. Cartridges dry out extraordinarily fast. If by chance, you have this printer in your bedroom, be prepared to be woken in the middle of the night, as that is when it likes to clean itself. This can't be disabled.

Piece of junk

Jess W., Newegg
21 December 2007
  • Summary: My son owned the version without the Ethernet. He had the same printer problems. Two printers before that he had just the printer version with identical problems. Put your money on a decent laser and forget inkjet printing. All the inexpensive inkjets have gone away.
  • Pros: Looks real nice, compact. Packaging was well executed. Worked well over the network as a shared printer.
  • Cons: This unit has very poor scanner software. It won't retain the last settings, so every scan is like a new one and the setup must be re-executed. There are no user controls to adequately refine the scan either in 2-tone or color. (My old Microtek V600 is still running after 10 yrs and has more setu...

  • Summary: all i want to do is print out text. why must this printer over-complicate and under-perform in that simple task?
  • Pros: scans well. individual ink cartridges. has a nice little screen. SD card slot, can do network. looks nice.
  • Cons: 1. getting it to print involves wizardry. its a throwback to the early days of inkjet printing, when getting the printer to work properly was a major undertaking. 2. printouts are ugly and illegible on all settings except "fine" 3. on "fine" each page takes about a minute to print. this is too lo...

Started out good, then...

Anonymous, Newegg

  • Pros: Worked great out of the box. Very reasonable for an ethernet-ready printer/fax/copier/scanner, but that's where the good stuff ends.
  • Cons: Print head is poorly designed, and clogs after several months of use, making the printer useless. This is a known issue that Brother has no answer for. You will all of a sudden be printing along without a problem, and then you get an "Ink Empty" message, or a "No Ink Cartridge" message. When you ...
