The older the better, at least for me.

  • Summary: I had an identical Brother printer, that I used for at least 7 years, 5 of them working for my master's in Forensic Science. It started having a few problems, and I did some searching, for not only a printer, but also for replacement ink cartridges cost. Then I came back to the fact I have at least 12 ink cartridges replacements for my brother. That is when I decided to see if. I could find another one like the one I have and love.

  • Summary: This replaced the same model we had for years previously. We found it had easy operation, was dependable and had a quality output. The fax feature is straight forward and very simple.

A great disappointment

  • Summary: This is a printer, scanner, faxer and copier. You don't need to have it attached to a PC for it to work. The menus are wonderful, and it's very easy to use, print, copy or fax! To top it off, this is a cheap product, but of course you get what you pay for. Without realizing it, this is my second of three Brother all in one printers.

Avoid at all costs!!

  • Summary: Like another reviewer stated, this thing becomes no more than a paperweight after the ink runs out. It does not print unless ALL cartridges are full, even if you are ok with black and white only!! I recently bought a new set of ink cartridges, and in less than a month the printer will not function since the yellow is empty. This is absurd. Brother should be issuing out refunds for this thing.

Goodwill bound

S. Winterich, Amazon
25 November 2008
  • Summary: I used this model as a scanner. Mechanically, it was fine and delivered image quality consistent with resolution specs. There is no reason to believe that it would not have worked equally well as a fax machine. But the driver used to force my OS to crash (XP Professional) and perform a defensive memory dump about once every week or 10 days. I understand that no one is perfect, and tried a couple of times to locate driver updates but there were none available.

  • Summary: Do not buy this printer unless you really feel the need to waste money. If I could give it zero stars, I would. I have had this printer for less than a year. If any of the cartridges goes out it will not allow you to print at all. Tonight, I went out and bought replacement cartridges at the sum of $40. Came home and installed them. The printer will only tell me that there are no cartridges installed. Won't even let me use the cleaning utility.

Do Not Buy

Keith Thornton, Amazon
28 August 2007
  • Summary: Any money you save on the cheap price you will more than make up for paying for ink. I get 5+/- one to two page faxes a week and go through a black ink cartridge every 2 months and have to replace the color catridges every 3-4 months. The machine virtually disables itself if any ink cartridge runs low. You can't even use the scan functions. In addtion the machine forces you to change them when ther is ink clearly visible in the cartridges they are not empty.
