Summary: It hasn't worked once since we bought it. Spent time setting it up, loaded onto computer. have even spent money having a computer service see what we might me doing wrong... didn't work for them either. Very unhappy with this purchase.
Summary: This is a printer, scanner, faxer and copier. You don't need to have it attached to a PC for it to work. The menus are wonderful, and it's very easy to use, print, copy or fax! To top it off, this is a cheap product, but of course you get what you pay for. Without realizing it, this is my second of three Brother all in one printers.
Summary: Like another reviewer stated, this thing becomes no more than a paperweight after the ink runs out. It does not print unless ALL cartridges are full, even if you are ok with black and white only!! I recently bought a new set of ink cartridges, and in less than a month the printer will not function since the yellow is empty. This is absurd. Brother should be issuing out refunds for this thing.
Summary: I used this model as a scanner. Mechanically, it was fine and delivered image quality consistent with resolution specs. There is no reason to believe that it would not have worked equally well as a fax machine. But the driver used to force my OS to crash (XP Professional) and perform a defensive memory dump about once every week or 10 days. I understand that no one is perfect, and tried a couple of times to locate driver updates but there were none available.
Summary: Do not buy this printer unless you really feel the need to waste money. If I could give it zero stars, I would. I have had this printer for less than a year. If any of the cartridges goes out it will not allow you to print at all. Tonight, I went out and bought replacement cartridges at the sum of $40. Came home and installed them. The printer will only tell me that there are no cartridges installed. Won't even let me use the cleaning utility.
Summary: Any money you save on the cheap price you will more than make up for paying for ink. I get 5+/- one to two page faxes a week and go through a black ink cartridge every 2 months and have to replace the color catridges every 3-4 months. The machine virtually disables itself if any ink cartridge runs low. You can't even use the scan functions. In addtion the machine forces you to change them when ther is ink clearly visible in the cartridges they are not empty.
Summary: Bought originally for compact size and great price, $59 after rebate. Works great, I use it with a printserver for a home office, cheap ink now purchased thru ebay further reduces cost per page. Replaced HP officejet, Brother has clearer print, and individual ink cartridges are a plus. Lightning surge killed last one, I'm buying another via ebay of course- newer versions have smaller ink catridges, so I'm sticking with the MFC_3240c.
Summary: In a small office environment, this has got to be about the least expensive fax/printer to run. The printer does go through cleaning cycles periodically, and if you don't use your printer often, you might be better off with something else. But look at the ink cost before deciding. We're getting compatible ink for under $2 per tank. (the tank type is LC41) The savings on ink in the first year compared to our Canon bubblejet fax more than paid for the Brother.
