Summary: This is simply a reveiw of a tested product. My business has used this unit to copy scan and print. the color is not the most defined but it has run for now over 3 years, made over 35,000 (Unit tells you how many not a guess)copies and has never needed replacement parts or repair. Used every day. Can't even remember the purchase price but it has been well worth it.
Excerpt: The sale price is really what drew me to this particular printer. But since then, I've become a fan and love my Brother printer. I was looking for a printer that has a lift up lid feature so that I can copy a page from a book. When you only have the feeder type printers, you can't do that. So I love that feature a lot. It's also a scanner which I'm learning how to do and can see applications for my business with this. It's also a fax machine but I'm not using that...
Decent printing but colors are dull. Even black doesn't rich.

Excerpt: Negative:* Black text and prints comes out looking dark gray (no matter what I do, it come sout gray). I compared the same print out when my older HP printer and yes, there is a huge difference in the black tone. HP gave a more richer black color. Brother's seems diluted.* No USB cable provided (Like selling a car with no steering wheel)* Printer uses INK to clean itself. 2-3 times a month. Even when the printer is OFF. ???
Brother Multifunction - that's what I like about it.

Excerpt: Have had the Brother Multifunction MFC - 290c printer for over a half of a year and I love it! It has worked well for me - not had any problems. I like the multi-colored ink and very easy to take out and put in a new one. The color is astounding. I also like the feature of copying and scanning. It is so handy. My other printer just printed - no other features. Printing borderless prints very professionally. The prints are very clear.
The Brother mfc-290c is wonderful, I couldn't work without it.

Excerpt: The Brother all in one Mfc-290 is a great tool to have at the office or at home. It is a fax, scanner, coppier, printer and does a wonderful job. When I print the picture is so clear and photos look like the real thing. this is the best piece of office equipment I own and would buy it again if needed. The couster support team is wonderful as well. If I have any questions I can call them and they walk me through what ever I need.
Excerpt: After having had 2 HP All-In-Ones, with the scanner on both deciding to not work on the same day (one was a back up, so wasn't that great), we contacted HP for help. Forget that. All they wanted to do was sell an extended warranty. We decided we've had enough of them and are trying this model out. It does a great job of printing, but has had some serious paper jams that were a bit scary.
Excerpt: This Brother printer is fantastic for people on a budget! After years of paying big bucks for multifunction laser machines, I found myself in the market for a simple, low volume device to print a few things in color. This machine fits the bill perfectly. It was simple to set up, its easy to operate and has a sleep mode to reduce power consumption. After six months I've only had to change one cartridge.
Summary: This piece of crap will not print in black and white when one of the color cartridges is empty. Why???? All other printers on the face of the earth will print in black and white if a color cartridge is empty. Complete nonsense! Don't buy this crap.
Summary: The SCANNER will not work if it does not sense the ink. My parents bought this for their house, replaced the ink and now, with FULL ink cartridges, the printer does not detect any ink and will not allow any of the functions (including SCANNING). STAY AWAY. TERRIBLE PRODUCT.
Summary: Wish I had read all these reviews before purchasing it. The first few prints (photocopies) seemed fine (b/w only) Not much printing since, but the few attempts resulted in smudged, shifted printing - ie. it appears that on successive prints of the same document the head is no longer aligned correctly so the result is completely illegible and appears smudged. I don't see how any cleaning could fix this problem - to the trash heap it will have to go !
