Built-In Limitations Make It Less Useful

OldManColorado, Office Depot
19 May 2013
  • Excerpt: It does all that is advertised - copies, scans, prints. The problem is it does not do any of them edge-to-edge (full sheet). For scanning and copying, this cuts off approximately 3/16" at the top and bottom of a page, and 1/8" on the left and right sides (letter or legal size originals). Printing has a similar limitation, which is more normal.
  • Pros: acceptable if you know limits
  • Cons: documentation doesn't reveal key limitations

Some Built-in Limitations Limit Its Usefulness

Shoppin' Dave, Amazon
7 May 2013
  • Summary: I've been a fan of Brother products for years. This multifunction unit is challenging that, however. Functionally, it works: ♦The setup process is easy. ♦The Unit operation is quickly learned. ♦The software isn't awesome but can be mastered easily and does what it is supposed to do. ♦ Unit controls are clear and well marked. ◄4.5 stars► A BIG downside ... it will not copy or scan a letter-size document from edge-to-edge and top to bottom.

GOOD COPIER, TERRIBLE SUPPORT

KenU, Staples
31 January 2013
  • Excerpt: Good copier does everything I needed it to. Quiet, fast, and efficient. Needed assistance setting up networking, emailed tech support 2 days ago still have not received a response back. As long as you don't need support this should be a good copier or for anyone, either small business or personal.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy to Use, Efficient
  • Cons: Unresponsive Tech Support

OK as a B&W printer but not as a copier

Button Doll, Amazon
6 September 2012
  • Summary: I got this for our small office 9 months ago and we use it mostly to print newsletters that has on average 10-15% page coverage. We've gone through more than half a dozen toners since then, with the high-yield toner on toner-save mode giving us about 900 pages/toner. So it's just slightly cheaper than outsourcing it to a print shop. The qualities from the print and the scan functions are ok.

Great Print Quality. Fast enough. Can't Get Network Scanner to Work. Loud.

wildcatgoal, Amazon
19 October 2011
  • Summary: It's loud, but it shuts itself off when not in use and starts up quickly when I need to use it, so no big deal. The print quality is great, no complaints there. I am struggling getting the darn scanner to work over the network so I can press the button on the unit and scan to one of my computers. I've installed the software, the computer knows the scanner/printer is there. I can only get it to work on my Mac if I manually run the scanner.

A good deal but beware of the toner capacity!

Aman, Amazon
29 September 2011
  • Summary: For a laser printer, I think it is a good deal. The printer works fine; its not loud and the speed is average. Automatic duplex printing is a big plus. The papers don't get stuck, at least they haven't got stuck yet. I printed out about 200 pages, most of them in 'toner save mode' and still the toner ran out pretty fast. This despite the advert that the initial toner lasts for about 700 pages!.
