As always, your first thought should not be what mp3 player, but how – and to what – you are going to use your new mp3 player. In the beginning, there were a few different brands and then came the iPod and the market changed with one market leader. Today you still have a lot of brands and models to choose from besides the different iPods. Many cell phones today are also fitted with a built-in mp3-player. So now we have an abundant selection – so how to choose? Well the first question is what are we going to store on it, just music or also video and/or photos? If video and photos; then go for maximum GB. If mainly music; then choose a model with easy operation and check what software comes with the player. There are also lots of third-party softwares available on the internet.
There are loads of accessories on the market. Music lovers should consider buying better earphones than those that come with the player. You can turn your player into a full music system by buying a speaker set with built-in docking station. Connect wireless to other equipment or get radio sets, connect it to your cell phone or … the list goes on and on. You can even buy T-shirts designed in the style of the more popular models!
Mp3 players today could be divided into four main segments:
• The inexpensive and simple ones. Do not expect too much but they often deliver a quite acceptable quality. Use it as a spare or buy an extra one to use in the office or at the gym. It often pays off to replace the earphones as they tend to be cheaper than the player.
• The super small/light made to carry with you at all time. They come in all qualities but as they are smaller the display often is small and there are few buttons which tends to make them a bit more complicated to operate.
• The superior sound system. These players focus on sound quality and often give you possibility to decide in which quality to store music. They sometimes have digital connections and/or connections to amplifiers or sound systems.
• The “almost” media system. Multipurpose players that can handle photos, music as well as videos, often fitted with a large memory. Here you often get a widescreen color display. These models often use a lot of battery so be sure to compare them carefully.
After deciding which mp3 player to choose between, read tests of interesting models. Bring some favorite music with you to the store so that you can compare sound quality before buying an mp3 player. Finally you can explore all the accessories, everything you need - and a lot that you never imagined to be possible to need - is available.
TIP:
Some mp3 players use standard sized batteries, for those models you could save some money by buying rechargeable batteries.
