  • Summary: Yes, I should have read the CPU support list more carefully.
  • Pros: Cheap, good features with one exception (see below).
  • Cons: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HARPERTOWN CPUS! Caution, your 45nm brand new harpertowns won't work in this board.

Get the right parts!

Nicholas C., Newegg
7 June 2007
  • Summary: Be sure to get the right case and PSU. This is NOT a standard ATX or SSI case it is an SSI CEB case. You also need to be certain that you get a PSU that has an 8 pin 12V connector with a 24 pin connector.
  • Pros: Dual socket is nice. Great board with Xeon chip running in a server environment.
  • Cons: Adding a second chip makes Windows XP Pro interface run slower.

Disappointed

Martin D., Newegg
7 April 2007
  • Summary: Working with Tyan tech support is very difficult. Suggested many fixes, all relating to other components, and refused to believe that board was at fault. New Egg came to the rescue. New Egg you ROCK!
  • Pros: Looks pretty.
  • Cons: Error codes right out of the box!! Had to RMA and order an Intel board to complete server.

  • Summary: This is a great MB, but it's important to understand what you're getting. Make sure you get the right case and memory. I use a Silverstone TJ05B. Great setup.
  • Pros: 6 SATA II ports, space for two dual-core processors. Straightforward configuration and setup. Stable. Most devices work easily with Linux.
  • Cons: I didn't realize what "fakeraid" meant until I tried to set up a RAID 5 array created in the system BIOS in Linux and realized that the OS saw all three volumes - not the combined array. Ended up ditching the idea of using dm-raid (didn't want to tweak the Debian kernel too much) and used fully s...

  • Summary: Took other's advice and got the right memory.
  • Pros: Everything works out-of-the-box.
  • Cons: Setting up the RAID was a little confusing. Boot time is a little longer than I like.

Great MB, but read the SPECS!!!

Kamilo A., Newegg
22 September 2006
  • Summary: Make sure to read the specs and go to tyan.com to read what RAM can be used with this board. It's VERY specific! Fully Buffered DIMM's ONLY!
  • Pros: Great motherboard, fast easy to configure. Everything fits great and all the manuals are very helpful. Good mb for dual xeon proc's.
  • Cons: None, could use an onboard 1394 connection for front pannel.
