No POST, no video signal

Lyndon H., Newegg
4 November 2011
  • Summary: I did not purchase this board at Newegg. It is second-hand (but well cared for and looked new), from a trusted seller. From what I've seen on Internet searches, it would appear this motherboard has an unexplained incompatiblity with an unknown number and type of power supply units.
  • Pros: It's a feature rich motherboard.
  • Cons: Will not post or give a video signal with onboard VGA chip or through an add-on PCIe video card and will not reset or power cycle through a remote IPMI Ethernet session. I performed most extensive, exhaustive troubleshooting that I've ever done on a motherboard (over 40 builds, over 10 years) and...

Tyan boards are horrible

Anonymous, Newegg
27 October 2011
  • Summary: They dont even care that they are not going to help.
  • Pros: None doesnt even Post. It gets better read on. Tyan you have lost your edge. Never again will I use a Tyan MOB.
  • Cons: Everything other then its a G34. Board died within a month. Terriable customer support, lame repair policy. Brand new motherboard, they wanted me to send the board back for repair and then they would send back to me total time 2-3 weeks with me paying shipping. Newegg just took it back and sent m...

Doesn't work

Maurice V., Newegg
22 September 2011
  • Pros: Nice board, has SAS.
  • Cons: Won't POST, LED6 blinks and no video. RMA'd and replacement does the same. Tried two (yes two) Corsair AX1200 with both 8 pin CPU power leads connected, no dice.

Specialized tool, RAID not worth it

John C., Newegg
1 July 2011
  • Summary: This is the first computer I've had in decades without any sound outputs, just a beep speaker on the motherboard. That's kinda neat, to have a true work machine.
  • Pros: This motherboard is great for virtualization. You've got sockets for two 8-core CPUs (12 core is available), sixteen memory sockets and four gigabit NICs.
  • Cons: The onboard Promise RAID is not ready for prime time, not even close. I had planned to stripe and mirror four drives in RAID 10. The Promise utility thinks it needs six drives for RAID 10, and the Tyan tech support thinks you need 10 drives. It took them three days to find the Promise documentati...

Excellent ESXi motherboard

Christopher K., Newegg
16 March 2011
  • Summary: I built this system with 32GB RAM, Opteron 6128, 8x Crucial C300 SSDs backed by an LSI MegaRaid Controller. I am currently running 12 VMs of varying size (2GB & 4GB RAM, Win 2k8 & RHEL/CentOS) and it's barely breaking a sweat. Still have room for additional 6128 and another 32GB RAM.
  • Pros: This motherboard is fully compatible with VMware ESXi 4.1. Having 4 onboard gigE NICs is great for building advanced networking configurations or NIC failover. 16 DIMM slots that will accept low cost 4GB ECC memory is a huge bonus. (Kingston Value RAM KVR1333D3E9S/4G) You can install 64GB RAM and...
  • Cons: Requires 2x 8pin EPS plugs. Choose your PSU wisely.

Really nice motheboard

Joseph L., Newegg
18 December 2010
  • Summary: Make sure your PS has 2 EPS12v adapters. If not, you will need a Y-adapter or a converter cable for a 6 pin to 8 pin EPSv12. The board will not POST if both connectors are not attached.
  • Pros: Takes dual G34 processors and loads of memory. The Megarac web server is a great to control the server via a web browser. The Remote console works perfectly with Linux as long as you use a 32-bit version of Java. Works great with CentOS and it does not break a sweat running virtual machines. I'm ...
  • Cons: I had to return mine and was told that CPU slot 1 was damaged and Newegg returned it. I only bought 1 CPU and put it in CPU slot 0, so make sure you check the pins on both CPU slots before doing anything with the board. I was able to correct the pin in CPU slot 1 and the system is up and running....
