Multi-GPU beast

Anonymous, Newegg
10 January 2013
  • Summary: Shipped with BIOS 1.03, needs an update to run 4300 series Opterons but will run 4200 out of the box. A little expensive for a home desktop/workstation, but then that's not really what it's intended for. I feel better having a Tyan board in my computer instead of regular consumer junk.
  • Pros: Lots of PCI-E connectivity; I'm running with 4184s and 4 GPUs right now - 2 GTX 660s and 2 GTX 460s to play lots of fullscreen EveO clients. Need some more Kepler! Has an audio chip with Intel HDA header (Asus KCMA-D8 does NOT), this is a huge plus for a workstation.
  • Cons: RAM is too close to CPU2 with Hyper 212+ Evos (need to make custom clampdown bracket to fit C32 mounting - a small piece of angle aluminum works well with some long #6-32 screws), so you can only install 2 sticks. Good server board

David M., Newegg
5 May 2012
  • Summary: I've got three of these boards in servers. They work properly "out of the box" with 4184 CPU's. However, they won't POST with 42xx CPU's without flash upgrading to the latest BIOS (3.02 as of this review).
  • Pros: High manufacture quality. Solid reliability for servers that *must* run 24/7/365.
  • Cons: Pricey! ....Recently purchased boards may ship with very old BIOS which won't POST using 42xx series CPU's.
