There is no catch, this board is great!

Richard D., Newegg
13 November 2012
  • Summary: My system specs intel e3-1230v2 processor Thermaltake Smart SP-430P 430W ATX 12V 2.3 80 PLUS Certified power supply Tyan s5512gm2nr motherboard 4x4gb (16gb total) Kingston KVR1600D3E11S/4G ddr3 1600mhz memory 1tb seagate barracuda sata hard drive asus dvd-r sata drive Rosewill REDBONE computer case.
  • Pros: This motherboard came with the 2.02 (May 2012) bios installed, which supports the ivy bridge cpu. I had no clue so I already had my sandy bridge i3-2100 taken out of my main pc and put in the server. Used Tyan's HelpStar website to leave a message for a Tyan tech about upgrading bios. He sent me ...
  • Cons: No USB 3.0

Good board, but with a catch

Anatoliy P., Newegg
21 October 2012
  • Pros: Good set of ports, good form-factor, IPMI and other goodies.
  • Cons: There is a catch with this board - it ships with an old BIOS that DOES NOT SUPPORT IVY BRIDGE CPUs. New BIOS is available for download on Tyan web site, but you need Sandy Bridge CPU handy to flash the BIOS. If you don't have Sandy Bridge CPU - you will be stuck, because Tyan explicitly declines ...

  • Summary: I am very disappointed with Tyan. I have used their products a lot, I have four working Tyan servers right now. When they arrive working they are great!!! But I have received 3 boards from them DOA this being one of them, the other two were different boards.

Only buy if you already have an early 1155 chip

David E., Newegg
28 September 2012
  • Summary: While I understand that these boards are not in high demand, Newegg needs to have a better policy in monitoring the age of the MOBO's they sell!
  • Pros: Nice board. Boots much quicker than expected.
  • Cons: Unless you already have an older supported CPU (I assume any older Sandy Bridge), you will be out of luck - which was my case because I bought what was said to be supported (E3-1275 Ivy Bridge). The BIOS was July of 2011. Post was a series of undocumented beeps. Tyan support was helpful, but stil...

Great Server Motherboard!!!!!!!!

Brockton B., Newegg
5 May 2012
  • Summary: I also used a video card: HD-545X-ZQH2 note: The boot is slower than non-server motherboards so give it time to boot, this is common of all the Intel C200 series chipsets for servers. I am very, very pleased with the quality and placement of parts in this server motherboard.
  • Pros: Quality is the thought that comes to mind when I think about this board. It is without a doubt, the best motherboard I have built a system with in years. Has 5 fan headers, Every expansion slot anyone could need. A quality server board that will last for years. I am glad I bought this board inste...
  • Cons: none but, before you buy make sure you have: ECC unbuffered memory; I used KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G EPS power; I used X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) Xeon CPU; The memory controller is in the CPU so you have to used a CPU that supports ECC; I used BX80623E31230
