AM2 = 940 pins

Ken C., Newegg
20 September 2007
  • Summary: Check the wiki on socket 940: There is a new 940-pin socket called AM2. Though the current Socket 940 and the AM2 both share the same number of pins, they are not pin-compatible. That is, a Socket 940 processor will not fit in a AM2 socket.
  • Pros: Socket AM2 has 940 pins--but not all socket 940 motherboards are AM2.
  • Cons: Con-fusing.
