Summary: Wow, what a master piece. The MSI Z87 XPower is perhaps the most beautiful motherboard we have ever seen, both from an aesthetic and an engineering stand point. It is a shame we don’t have a few of the MSI HAWK or Lightning graphics cards, as they would look right at home on this motherboard. If you are considering the Z87 XPower we suggest you check them out.
Excerpt: The Z87 XPower board is the flagship motherboard in MSI's MPower product line. The board supports the latest generation of Intel LGA1150-based processors with all the over-engineered goodness you've come to expect from an MSI flagship board. The Z87 XPower sports the black and yellow theme of the product line, along with integrated LEDs to really make the board stand out.
Excerpt: In our recent group test of 37 Haswell motherboards MSI's most high-end motherboard wasn't included. We've since had the opportunity to test the MSI Z87 XPower, a motherboard that's aimed at the most avid overclockers out there. We compared it to other motherboards we tested.
Summary: Overall my experiences with the Z87 XPOWER were fantastic. With regard to stability, features, overclocking, and even aesthetics the Z87 XPOWER has few equals. If there is any caveat to this motherboard beyond price and potentially form factor it’s the software. As usual MSI comes up a little short in the software arena. The Command Center software is just a little clunky to work with and it’s interface is busy without any reason for being that way.
Summary: Higher end products are niche items which don’t make a lot of sense for the vast majority of users. Even gamers and enthusiasts sometimes shy away from these products unless the feature set aligns with their needs, desires, and budgets. The feature-packed MSI Z87 XPower is a fine example of this high end motherboard category.
Conclusion: The motherboard industry is cruel. Manufacturers will judge the success of a product based on sales regardless of the purpose, and as such having a pure OC-oriented board is a big no-no. If you have to have a motherboard based on overclocking, it must also have features that will cause users to buy it for day-to-day use. We see this among all the manufacturers, even those that have tried a pure-OC board in the past.
Conclusion: Overall the board is quite a looker with its black and yellow theme. It is also quite a large board at XL-ATX dimensions, so make sure you have the room in your case/benching station to support its size. The board supports up to quad SLI and CFx, and has a solid audio section utilizing the ALC1150 codec as well as the physical separation from other parts of the board to assist with making the sound better.

Summary: Really, as disappointing Haswell is as enthusiast processor upgrade coming from Sandy and Ivy Bridge is, we MUST acknowledge how incredible exquisit, cool and sexy the Z87 platform is when it comes to board partner motherboards. I mean, what MSI offers here today is a little flabbergasting. Then again, ... that price. But from A to Z the motherboard has been chucked full with the coolest features and that ranges from WIFI, WIDI the ten 6 Gbps SATA ports and even mSATA.
Summary: At a price point of $439, the MSI Z87 XPOWER is in the Enthusiast category of Intel Z87 motherboard systems.
The Z87 XPOWER is an enthusiast-class mainboard designed primarily for overclocking but it is also outfitted with several features that deliver impressive performance, be it network transfer rates (both wired and wireless), internal or external storage as well as graphical horsepower potential through seamless multi-GPU functionality.
