Flagship

Anonymous, Newegg
6 June 2014
  • Summary: I have purchased over the years many MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, XFX, and EVGA parts, including vid cards, motherboards, cases and I would have to say, for an "Extreme OC Flagship High Performance" motherboard, I am disappointed.
  • Pros: This motherboard is probably the cheapest "flagship" motherboard you can buy. It has Killer brand NIC, and all the benefits of a 1150 socket motherboard. For the price it is a good-enough motherboard. It is a nice black color with good yellow accents. All HDMI, sata, usb, ethernet, pcie slots work.
  • Cons: I am only listing these problems as the word "flagship" which means best of the best is in the title. 1) The USB3 header on the motherboard is not vertical which is not the real issue. I attempted to pull the usb3 plugged into it out in the proper direction and the header came out with it! I was ...

Not bad for the price, but could be better..

Timothy M., Newegg
12 March 2014
  • Summary: Overall, I'm not unhappy with my purchase, but it could've been much better. I'm not sure if I'd recommend this board to others yet. I'll make up my mind on that when I figure out if my BIOS can actually be updated to the latest version or not and update this review.
  • Pros: The board looks nice. It even has LEDs on the back of it for some reason. The construction feels and looks solid. The audio chip is very, very good. The NIC is well-performing. I don't use the 'killer' software for it, though, as it seems to do more harm than good. (Manual) overclocking was simpl...
  • Cons: The BIOS is a bit clunky and won't update (seriously - flashing an update just freezes it. I end up just having to reset the machine after waiting awihle). Hopefully this BIOS doesn't have any crushing bugs, because I'm stuck with it... I plan to try the update again after researching it further,...

Do not use "Flash BIOS & ME" option

Raymond L., Newegg
30 December 2013
  • Summary: The "ME" in the "Flash BIOS & ME" option stands for Intel Management Engine. However, the Intel Management Engine is updated from within Windows (they're drivers), not in the BIOS. Whatever was intended from this option in the BIOS, it doesn't work.
  • Pros: - No D-Sub (VGA) port - No PCI Slots - Has DisplayPort - Dual BIOS I specifically looked for a motherboard that did not have a VGA port and these days I prefer PCI Express slots to PCI slots. DisplayPort was a must.
  • Cons: When flashing the BIOS using the M-Flash utility, there is an option to flash the BIOS, and another option to flash the BIOS & ME. Do NOT use the "Flash BIOS & ME" option. It bricks the BIOS. I found out about the problem on the MSI forums after-the-fact. In fact, the forums mention that it was a...

Good MoBo if you don't want to use your DisplayPort

nicholas L., Newegg
14 December 2013
  • Pros: There are a lot of accessories that come with the motherboard such as: cables, screws, and what not. The onboard wireless works really well.
  • Cons: The DisplayPort will not recognize anything. I have updated the drivers and ensured that the problem was not the monitor. It may be a hardware issue but I am not sure and MSI is taking their SWEET time getting back to me.

Driver and installation Issues

Steven M., Newegg
6 October 2013
  • Pros: Good board, lots of features. After finally interpreting the very bad installation instructions got it installed and working.
  • Cons: MSI has wrong Killer drivers on download website. Had to got to NIC manufacturer site to download correct drivers. Unable to install just plain NIC driver without control software. Unable to get Internal GPU and PCE GPU to work together. Software that us supposed to handle this (MVP) will not ins...

Seems like a good board????

Joshua S., Newegg
22 July 2013
  • Summary: I'll review again if I can get the repaired/replaced board working.
  • Pros: Has lots of options.
  • Cons: I've built several pc's and this is the first time I've run into this issue. I received the first board, assembled the pc, and hit the power button. Power on, Power off instantly. returned to Newegg for a replacement. Received the new board and bench tested the basics with just MB, CPU, 2x Sticks...

decent board

skyler, Amazon
13 July 2013
  • Summary: if youre on a budget this board is fine. bios is easy to navigate, oc genie works well, and its well built. however, i recommend spending the extra $10 or so for the g45 gaming. the g45 supports sli and crossfire and has a few more pcie slots and is easily worth the extra money

I wouldn't buy it again...

Lucas, Amazon
13 July 2013
  • Summary: TLDNR: I wouldn't recommend any computer component that might require the purchase of something else for it to be fully usable. First off the good: It has a great BIOS The board itself is beautiful, I especially love the matte black PCB, it's sturdy and well built I can honestly say that I have used...
