Intel's X48 chipset has its positives and negatives. On the plus side, it performs very much like a X38 chipset. The scores from our benchmarks were very similar, with a small marginal improvement. One thing I particularly like is that fact that it was very clockable. Pushing beyond 475Mhz (1900FSB) should be a problem, however you have to take into consideration the rest of your components ... good overclocking DDR3 ram is most definitely needed. On the down side,... Read more
MSI sent over their newest motherboard using Intel's latest and greatest. What exactly is all the fuss about? Read on to find out It didn't seem that long ago when Intel unleashed their enthusiast X38 chipset. In just a few short months, we now have the X48 trickling into the market. What has changed between the two? Not a whole lot as it turns out. All of the X38 features have carried over to the X48. The only real change that will affect the end user is the off... Read more
The X38 chipset has definitely turned out to be less than we had initially hoped for, and with all the hype saying it would be the next big chipset without overclocking boundaries that are put into some chipsets to limit their overclocking potential, X38 has flopped out with higher power requirements and heat generation causing some overclocking problems; this is especially the case when it came to the memory side of things. If the Northbridge gets to hot it just can’... Read more
Although the results of our today’s test session didn’t make an unforgettable impression, among the truly remarkable things we should definitely point out a very convenient TroubleShoot Poster. We have to admit that things have improved noticeably compared with the MSI P35 Platinum mainboard series. For example, the mainboard didn’t experience the same operation malfunctions as the ones we encountered with the P35 Platinum Combo board reviewed recently. However, we ca... Read more
This is a great board, at stock speeds it is a tad faster than the 38 chipset boards. The only flaw is that the board actually runs without having the cpu fan cable connected to the right connector. For many this will end up as a big problem as beginners might forget to connect the cable and then start the board. Otherwise though I am quite happy with it, since it overclocks well and is a very solid board that even runs stable under heavier overclocking. MSI includes ... Read more
