Good board when it works

Travis G., Newegg
27 October 2008
  • Pros: This is a very fast board when compined with 4GB of OCZ ram and 3.16 Intel Dual Core processor.
  • Cons: Flakey, I had issues from the beginning with random lockups with windows Vista 32 and 64 bit. No overclocking and tried several different parts before I came to the conclusion that it must be the motherbaord. Also, several reviews state the same probelm as mine. RMA'd the board and waiting for th...

Not for the novice system builder

Charles H., Newegg
28 September 2008
  • Summary: Now that I have so much time invested, the product seems to work fine. I like to make every effort on my part before I throw in the towel and return something. This is the BIOS setting that made this board work with my processor.
  • Pros: Great listed features. Nice design other than a few issues.
  • Cons: I have been building systems for 10+ years and have never encountered anything quite like this. I have spent over 24 hours messing with this thing as it was to be for personal use. First I couldn't get ANY version of windows to install. I could boot from a live Linux CD, but the system would cras...

MSI nForce780i SLI P7N Diamond

Kyle M., Newegg
8 September 2008
  • Summary: MSI's slow response to the know 780i Chipset video corruption issue, lost a future customer.
  • Pros: Tri SLI Support. Evenly spaced. Advanced cooling. Rebate. Newer 780i SLI chipset.
  • Cons: First board received was DOA. Continuously rebooted. This happens to every manufacturer and not directly MSI's fault. Second board received had issues with the SLI controller. Third board received had a know SLI video corruption issue. If you purchased this board update the BIOS if you plan to ru...

Rather disappointed

Mr. W., Newegg
11 July 2008
  • Summary: I lowered my opinion based on the video issue if using above 4 gigs. I amsorely dissappointed since I have 4 gigs laying around now collecting dust. Live update on line flash for bios went smoothly and upgraded to 1.1 version.
  • Pros: Easily installed in a Monolith case
  • Cons: Need additional space when using the GTX9800 series, second card takes up the PCI-e slot rendering it unusable. 8 gigs of ram does not appranetly work. You can hear the system boot, go to windows (by sound) but no video. Remove it down to 6 gigs and same occurance. In order to reestablish video, ...

Having problems

Patrick F., Newegg
2 May 2008
  • Summary: I just leave out the Array and install Vista 32bit and it installs just fine. I bought 2 e-VGA Nvidia 8800 GTS video cards, and I have them set up in SLI mode with the ribbon cable. When my system finally comes up, I have drivers to install but I am unsure which one's to do first.
  • Pros: Well, I am trying to find some Pro's here, but I guess I need some help
  • Cons: So Far, LOTS. I am having problems getting the RAID to work correctly. I have 2 500 GB MAXTOR SATA II drives, and a 10K RPM Raptor drive. I want to run the 2 Maxtor drives in RAID 1 array, but it just wont allow me to go into the raid BIOS to do it. It has been a while since I built a machine, so...

Follow up on earlier review

William F., Newegg
10 April 2008
  • Summary: I have always used MSI motherboards and video cards and gotten nothing but excellent quality and performance out of them until this one. I think after some improvements to the bios it will probably live up to what I have come to expect from an MSI product.
  • Pros: I still believe this to be a good board, or at least the potential to be one.
  • Cons: After trying GSkill, Corsair and Patriot memory, swapping video cards, power supply and CPU, this board would still re-boot constantly trying to install XP. Went through every possible bios setting to make sure all voltages and speeds were as tame as possible and still couldn't correct the issue....

User Review

Matthew N., Newegg
9 April 2008
  • Pros: good board and features.
  • Cons: This board does not seem to be compatible with Windows Xp currently. The drivers for the SATA controller (nvgtx.sys) crash the machine consistently. The drivers will not install for the sound card under XP, but everything works fine under vista.

Good and Bad

Jason D., Newegg
7 April 2008
  • Summary: Great feature set for the price, but totally unusable for me. Doing a few google searches shows a lot of others with simular issues regarding stability and SATA CD/DVD drives.
  • Pros: Great Feature set.
  • Cons: Stability issues with Vista 64 and SATA DVD drive. Had issues with USB keyboard and mouse on boot. Random reboots on clean install of 64 Vista sp1.
