Summary: If you're an enthusiast or intend to do overclocking, don't get this board.
Pros: Low price It works (mostly)
Cons: Died when running the CPU overclocked. Had an AMD Phenom x6 1090T overclocked to 3.6GHz. Core temperature was only 53 degrees. It suddenly turned off and would not turn on again, no fans or anything.
Cons: Lasted about a month and a half then just lost power and never booted up again. They sent me a new one quickly after but it was the same board which i believe is discontinued. Pray it doesnt do the same thing again since its the same board.
Summary: System would shut down without warning. Upon reboot, it shut off at Windows start-up screen. Started in safe mode. Virus scan: negative. Began a system restore in safe mode and was selecting a restore point when system shut down. Power LED was flashing. Upon restart, the motherboard began smoking.
Pros: Purchased this board in 11/09 and never had a problem with it. Ran great in SLI mode using dual eVGA 7800GTX KO video cards. Never did any overclocking and I've always been satisfied with its performance. Nice looking and okay layout.
Cons: I'd like to see the memory slots turned 90 degrees to make use of air flow. Video card size made one PCI-E slot physically unavailable. Only one IDE Channel. After 22 months of trouble free usage, I believe this mb has seen its final volt. I'd have thought this unit would've had a much longer lif...
Summary: I can't 100% blame MSI, it could have been a short in the sata cable (not sure), but I will just run a dual cpu instead of a quad on it when I get the RMA board. The quad cpu works fine on my MSI 785 board though.
Pros: I like the spacing on the pci-e x1 slots and the color scheme. I can't review the functionality of the board because it died before I could complete a windows install. So I am giving 3 eggs for appearance, design, and being a rare nforce product.
Cons: I would like to note this is one of the rare moments I have to submit an RMA. The board died after I bought a 2nd sata cable for the DVDRW drive. While I was installing windows it suddenly shutoff and would no longer post.
Summary: Honestly, I think the fact that MSI told me "Uh... you should replace that." is good customer service, is because they didn't waste my time re-asking things I told him I had already tried. He actually listened closely to every detail I explained to him.
Pros: Arrived Fast, worked great when it worked, had lots of room for cable management, and everything was well placed, making cable management and changing of parts very easy and less painful on the hands. Good costumer service. (I'll explain in Cons and Other Thoughts why I needed the costumer service.)
Cons: Well, the FIRST time I booted this up (Using all new parts), it powered on fine but nothing appeared on screen. After MUCH trial and error (About 5 days worth of work, trying known stuff, googling some other stuff, getting help from other, very knowledgeable computer geeks) I finally called MSI c...
Summary: Don't get me wrong, the board does in fact work, which is why I'm only breaking two eggs. MSI had me on a wild goose changes trying to locate/isolate the noise and then attempting to disable it. I'm not even sure I've permanently fixed it. Unacceptable design implementation if you ask me.
Pros: Took the chance and tried an open-box 'special'. Turned out overall good. Bored is fully functioning and in good condition. See cons.
Cons: MSI? What's that? I'm sorry... I CAN'T HEAR YOU over the high-frequency sustained "buzzing" that's emanating directly from the Active Phase Switching (APS) LED's near the CPU socket. Fellow Neweggers, this is a noticeable sensory observation. It's ultra-high pitch and enough to send you scramblin...
Summary: in the beginning it can be a bit of trouble getting into the bios. I had everything all put together and working except for the GPU last night so i tried to put the GPU into a different PCI slot but then when i tried to turn it on it wouldnt turn on, i made sure all the connections were connected...
Pros: Started working great for the first 12 hours
