No Post Hang

Anthony G., Newegg
28 December 2007
  • Summary: I believe (hope?) that flashing the bios on the MSI board would fix this problem. Of course, you cannot do that if it will not even Post. I would NOT use 64x2 65nm Brisbane CPU in this board until the bios update is verified. I'm not going to do this. I've had enough fun with this board.
  • Pros: Rated by AMD as one of the boards that will handle AMD's fastest AM2 Socket CPU. So, a 64x2 5000+ should be no problem.
  • Cons: Did not Post / boot. I stripped the system to the minimum and got DBracket Leds 2-3 (CPU Initializing). In frustration, I put the AM2 64x2 5000+ Black edition (Brisbane 65nm) in place of an older 64x2 5200 90nm in an ASUS M2N-SLI. It booted and ran Ubuntu in 64 bit mode. Putting the older 5200 int...

Chipset gets too hot, fails

Jesse M., Newegg
15 November 2007
  • Summary: This is a good board, but it needs a chipset cooler or larger heatsink. I've added a chipset fan to my other system that uses this board. I strongly recommend you do the same.
  • Pros: It's a great board, if it wasn't for the flaws... It has a nice mix of PCIE and PCI slots, good size, good onboard features, and nice price. MSI's website isn't great, but I've noticed improvements in the last year.
  • Cons: I own two of these and both were doing great until last week. I knew that the chipset heatsink ran really hot, but now I know it's a flaw. One of my two systems began to shut down spontaneously. After investigating, it turns out that the chipset got so hot that it "sweat" out the oil from the the...

You Gotta be kidding

Gerald C., Newegg
30 September 2007
  • Summary: Could be a nice board IF MSI released a real bios for the board , alos it has a bug that if you use a USB mouse , windows sees a PS2 mouse witha yello bang in your device manager
  • Pros: I bought one of these to try out because It had the Updated north bridge heatsink , but that is its only pro
  • Cons: sadly lacking in memory scores even with some high end memory running 4-3-4-10 1T best I could do was 2395 MPS MSI doesnt give you much in the bios for memory settings even with the latest bios

Doesn't work with TV capture cards.

Anonymous, Newegg
23 September 2007
  • Summary: I wanted to record from 3 TV channels at once, but my original MB only had 2 PCI slots, so I thought I'd upgrade to this. Turns out this MB is incompatible with TV capture cards, so this purchase was worthless to me.
  • Pros: 3 PCI slots, optical audio out, parallel port, serial port, 6 SATA, 4 DDR2 slots. Features would have been perfect for my use, if it had worked.
  • Cons: Does not work with my Twinhan ATSC D+A VP32500 v1.5 bt878a PCI video capture cards in Fedora 7 64-bit Linux (MythTV rocks). System crashes a few minutes after boot up. The capture cards work perfectly fine in another motherboard, so it is not the capture card's fault.

MB died - blames cpu

Anonymous, Newegg
6 May 2007
  • Summary: The newegg RMA process is great!!!! AMD's RMA process stinks.
  • Pros: Loaded with features. More than most people will need. The dual gigabit lan was nice to have to connect to multiple subnet lan segments
  • Cons: It runs hot. I'm not convinced that it doesn't need forced air. My board would randomly lock for 10 seconds. Never did trace it down. MB died one day. D bracket led diagnostics indicated bad cpu. RMAed the CPU - same bad cpu code. RMAing the MB now. I wont buy MSI stuff again for a while.

runs way too hot

Derek M., Newegg

  • Pros: Great board when running.
  • Cons: as said a bunch of times the northbridge heat sink runs way too hot. This causes it to reset a lot. Such a disappointment.

Ahhh. MSI Deisapointed

Eric S., Newegg
12 March 2007
  • Summary: Having a MSI board before, I was severely Disappointed in the Documentation that came with this board. compared to my other board the Manual sucks. have to go online for everything. Plus they dont even throw in a Floppy Like in Other MSI Boards. Over the 2 Years I am not impressed.
  • Pros: Features. Getting the 570 Chipset is great. and Having the full bandwidth in SLI mode not like the 550 Chipset Can't think of much more due to all the problems i'v had.
  • Cons: Have had nothing but problems. System unstable. Built 3 times total, with and without Raid. Chipset gets upto 198, thats insane. Lost My Audio controller for no reason. Rebooted and it came back. Lost My IDE controller for no reason. I just submitted my board for RMA, only because im out of the Re...

MSI K9N SLI Platinum oder eher der Layoutfehler

JBR6, Ciao
15 January 2008
