Conclusion: The MSI 890GXM-G65 is an interesting board in that it has the features to be among the best in the business with the support for both USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps and Active Phase Switching in both Linux as well as Windows. The bundle is rather lackluster as I would like to have seen at least two SATA Data cables, one is a bit disappointing. Performance was right up there in terms of the Mainboard performance and was the highest in terms of integrated performance.
Summary: It’s not very often that we come across a product that has quite the versatility of the 890GXM-G65. MSI has created a motherboard that fills two separate niches, the HTPC market and the portable gaming rig market. The SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 ports mean that it won’t fade into obsolescence for at least a few years. Even though the onboard 4290 isn’t powerful enough for serious gaming, it works perfectly for video playback.
Summary: While our testing of the MSI 890GXM-G65 is not yet complete, so
far we are enjoying this motherboard and it is working well with Ubuntu 10.04
LTS. This microATX motherboard sports AMD's high-end 890GX + SB850 Chipset with
USB 3.0, Serial ATA 6GB/s, eSATA, a heatpipe cooling system, Radeon HD 4290 graphics
with Sideport memory, and other welcomed features. At this time the MSI 890GXM-G65
motherboard is currently retailing for around $130 USD at
Summary: The MSI 890GXM-G65 was one of the first motherboard to market using the 890GX chipset. And a lot of times when a motherboard is first to be released to market, it is usually not the best and often have to go through a lot of trials. This is not the case with the 890GXM ,as it is one of the best microATX motherboards we have ever tested.
Summary: The 890GXM-G65 marks the first motherboard from MSI using AMD's new 890GX model chipset, codenamed RS880D. While the chipset shares the same HD4200-series RV620 integrated graphics as last year's 785G motherboards, the core operating frequency of the IGP has increased by 200MHz, demanding a new HD4290 model assignment.
Excerpt: A while ago AMD introduced their 790 chipset. This was yet another evolutionary step in AMDs illustrious chipset lineage and its rock-solid stability and ability to remain fresh through many steps kept it at the forefront of the AMD platform.
