Won't buy MSI MoBos again

Stephen W., Newegg
5 October 2015
  • Summary: Careful when buying discount bundle deals. Especially with motherboards.
  • Pros: Useable and it's lasted 5 years for what was meant to be an overclock build for Skyrim.
  • Cons: Red light was on from the start, setting to power on through keyboard never took, techsupport wasn't much help with either case, seemed they resigned to defeat too early as if they knew there was nothing they could do, the boot interface is lacking, and stopped using four sticks of RAM because th...

may she rest in peace...

Myles G., Newegg
30 April 2011
  • Summary: Used MSI's M-Flash utility which is a great tool. It helps to "Avoid Unnecessary Repair Due to Accident Failures During The Upgrading Process". Ain't that the truth, I won't have to worry about reflashing the BIOS ever again or subjecting it to anything more strenuous than keeping stacks of paper at...
  • Pros: The board *was* solid. Ran 24/7 as an 8-drive ZFS storage server without a single hiccup.
  • Cons: MSI BIOS flashing is a joke. Version numbers are confusing at best. e.g. The board POSTs with v1.12. Upon entering the BIOS and selecting M-Flash, the option to backup the existing BIOS defaults to the following filename: A7577AMS.1C0 for my board. This acurately maps to a BIOS on MSI's site. May...

What does native mean to you

Scott S., Newegg
15 January 2011
  • Summary: I gave it a 2 egg mostly because most people don't read 5 egg ratings, But this board does what it states and having owned and built numerous computers using MSI boards i cant see why this board gets flared for not supporting 6core procs out of the box considering that the 790FX chipset is starting...
  • Pros: Its an MSI board.
  • Cons: No native 6core support.

dont use MSI

Christian M., Newegg
14 January 2011
  • Summary: AMD Phenom II 1100T Six Core CPU 6 GB of Corsair dominator ram ati Radeon 5770 (gonna get a GTX 580!) and other stuff, but that should be able to play the worste game right?....wrong, this motherboard makes it so my cpu is at 800 MHz!
  • Pros: it will let me browse the internet? (with the cpu at 45% when im on facebook) i gave it 2 eggs because it lets me use it as a computer, but it wont let me game.
  • Cons: ok i bought the AMD Phenom II 1100T processor, first one i put in, broke a pin on it, had to buy a whole new one, then when i finaly get it all set up, the computer wont recognize it, on here is says AM3 ready, but it is no 6 core ready!, and contacted msi they pretty much blew me off, said i don...

Very disappointed

Ryan W., Newegg
18 August 2010
  • Summary: I'm not sure why I bought this board, I've had problems with budget MSI boards in the past. I guess I was just hoping this one would be a higher quality product.
  • Pros: Board is great for overclocking and has a ton of nice features in the BIOS. I have had no stability issues with my 965 Black.
  • Cons: This board has a lot of hardware problems. My bottom NIC and onboard audio have both gone out already and it doesn't like to recognize my RAID setup (have to reboot several times for this to happen. Eventually just took it out of RAID). Not very impressed with this board especially since I paid q...

Short Life expectancy

Matthew F., Newegg
16 August 2010
  • Summary: I had an old Dell which had a Foxconn and that board lasted me good ten years. Last year, I bought parts for two systems, one for the parents and one for the kids. I got this board for the parents and an ASUS for the other.
  • Pros: Good features for money especially when you buy from newegg when it is on sale
  • Cons: Too many things need to be updated as soon as you buy it. Not only that the life expectancy of this MB was very short. It only lasted me very few months without any tinkering or overclocking. The thing just died without any notice. I turn the system off and when I got back to it it would not rest...

No more MSI

Anonymous, Newegg
24 July 2010
  • Summary: The MSI RMA process takes a very long time, they must have a lot of defective boards, it usually takes over 1 month from the date of sending it in until receiving it.So make sure to leave the UPC on the box until you are sure that it works fine, also not all negative comments are posted here...
  • Pros: looks nice
  • Cons: Poor quality, I built PCs with lesser brand names (biostar,Zotac,ASrock) almost never a problem, MSIs have all kinds of problems lately, sometime its DOA, or the sound processor does not work right, background noise when moving the mouse or typing.Runs hot even when not overclokcing a 65W CPU.

Was good while it lasted.

Anonymous, Newegg
16 June 2010
  • Summary: Was really excited about this board but now my replacement will be from Asus.
  • Pros: Great looking and functioning board. Great specs works wonderfully when it does.
  • Cons: Worked fine since January. Now I get no POST with FF (CPU initialization)P debug code. Upon inspection I noticed a capacitor out of aligbnment touching the capacitor caused it to fall off. Off course i am off warranty by now but to me this is just poor craftmanship.

Windows 7 users beware. Hardware itself unreliable as well.

KaneRobot "kanerobot", Amazon
2 November 2009
  • Summary: Full disclosure: I am now on RMA #2 with this product (purchased through another site). I am considering trying the equivalent Asus board next purchased from Amazon. My problems are two-fold with this board. Most notably, the hardware itself has been extremely unreliable.
