MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 Review

MSI 790FX-GD70

5 June 2009
  • Conclusion: Well the numbers look bleak for this board to be honest but the innovation, different design ideas, price, color scheme, complete stability, complete set of push buttons, quad Crossfire support, powered eSATA, dual LAN ports, sideways SATA ports, and so on are what won it over for me. Sometimes it’s not all about numbers to make a great board.

MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 Motherboard

29 April 2009
  • Conclusion: Performance Summary: The MSI 790FX-GD70 performed well in all of our benchmarks and kept in line with the similar 790FX based ASUS M4A79T Deluxe board we used as a reference. The GD70 was configured identically to the M4A79T in all tests and it generally performed just as well, taking small leads in several tests. We also saw that the DDR3 equipped 790FX-GD70 has a slight but noticeable performance advantage over DDR2 equipped boards like many based on the 790GX chipset.
  • Pros: Good Performance, Highly Overclockable, Quad-CrossFire Support, Support for DDR3 2133 OC, Cool Features (OC DIal, Phase Indicator LEDs, Onboard Buttons)
  • Cons: Poor Front Panel Audio Connector Placement, "Only" 5-Phase Power Design

26 April 2009
  • Summary: Today, we have a look at two AMD AM3 motherboards, the first AMD DDR3 platform available for desktop users. Both DFI and MSI were kind enough to send us a sample of their most high-end product series, which will be tested both on performance and overclockability. We threw in a DDR2-based motherboard to find out whether or not the new memory support gives a true advantage.

22 April 2009
  • Summary: MSI have done a pretty good job with the MSI 790FX-GD70 (AM3) Motherboard. It's one of the most featured-packed motherboard available for the AM3 platform. Looking at the results from our benchmarks, the performance is on-par with other AM3 motherboards and it competed very well against offerings from Asus and Gigabyte. The motherboard supports all socket AM3 processors, as well as DDR3 ram and Quad crossfire.
  • Pros: - Support AMD's new Phenom II X4 (AM3) Processors, - Support DDR3 memory, - OC Dial and diagnostic LEDs, - APS (Active Phase Switching), - DrMOS feature, - Supports CrossfireX and Quad Crossfire, - Onboard Power-On, Reset, Clear CMOS and Green Power switches, - Ideal for gaming enthusiasts

MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 Motherboard Review

7 July 2009
  • Conclusion: We must admit, the MSI 790FX-GD70 has left us with a very positive impression. Beginning with physical aspects of the board, we’d have to say that the overall layout of the GD70 is very good. Considering that it is stacked with expansion slots, MSI did a great job of keeping most connectors and components out of the way. The chipset position and large passive cooling solution is also top-notch.

MSI 790FX-GD70

21 December 2010
