great intel mobo

  • Summary: I think Intel could have documented the motherboard a bit better and have included ALL the drivers on the CD ready for installtion in Windows Setup and not in zipped files. This is a solid motherboard and is working out great with dual 5520's.
  • Pros: The motherboard is quick to boot and is pretty easy to configure, once you figure out how everything is suppose to be configured. (Not complete documentation) Stable, and quick to install SBS 2008.
  • Cons: Documentation!! This is where Intel fell behind here, documentation is terrible, memory slots have to be populated in a very specific manner, post error beep codes not easy to find. Had a 1-5-4-4 error code (Power Control Fault), thought maybe the motherboard was grounding somewhere, but was a fa...

Won't post, Junk MOBO

  • Summary: Intel tech support is for 9-5ers only. If you are a tech in a data center late at night forget about it. I bought this board because I wanted to support an American company. What a mistake. Why oh why didn't I just buy an ASUS.
  • Pros: None that I have found. Would make a great paper weight.
  • Cons: Junk Junk Junk. I have assembled hundreds if not thousands of PCs and servers and this is the worst documented, most frustrating piece of junk motherboard I have ever laid eyes on. Absolutely no information on the web about why this thing won't post. I have tried everything known to man. This who...

  • Summary: QPI doesn't seem to be supported by linux kernel yet. (2.6.29)
  • Pros: - nice board - everything is detected right away in gentoo 2009 linux - onboard raid seems to work just fine with 2 arrays, one raid 1, the other raid 0 - lots of blinking lights - 1u profile fits into 1u cases I have 2 5520's in it w/ 12G of triple channel 1066 memory. 1333 mem is not supported ...
  • Cons: - documentation could be substantially better, especially regarding post codes - triple channel memory has to be installed in (board-inner)<filled,filled,empty,filled>(board-outer) configuration, but the documentation fails to mention that too. - no way to overclock, or rather, can't tell if spee...
