Summary: Bought this MA785GM-US2H microATX in order to use all the guts of my old gaming rig to make an HTPC. This one is the little brother of the Gigabyte MA790x-UD5P ATX that was in the original build. This little guy works great, and has a great set of features for such a tiny board. The only negative I could give is the positioning of the SATA ports.
This motherboard is an excellent buy for an older AM2/AM2+ processor!!!

Summary: I bought this motherboard as a replacement for an ASUS M3A78-EM AM2/AM2+ motherboard that failed in my sister's computer four months earlier. This board had all the necessary features that the ASUS motherboard had and then some. What I like most about it is the fact that I was able to properly implement AHCI in order for her to use her eSATA external hard drive enclosure to back up and restore files from her main hard drive.
AMD Athlon X3 425 Processor - Makes a lively robust Linux system
27 July 2012
Summary: I have installed a 64-bit version of Mepis 8.0.10 KDE Linux with a AMD Athlon X3 425 Processor mounted in this 785 motherboard. I tried to unlock a AMD 140 Sargas 2.7GHz, but unlucky draw I got and the ACC function would not unlock that CPU... Ordered a Athlon X3 425 Processor and the X3 processor in this motherboard feels quicker than my Phenom 9500 Agena 2.2 Quad running in the A770M-A AM2+ motherboard.
Summary: I bought this motherboard because the one I had was very intermittent and failing. I re-used the processor, memory and video card from my other motherboard in this one. Installation was a breeze and Ubuntu 10.10 loaded with no problems whatsoever. I have used ASUS motherboards in the past with varying results. This is my first Gigabyte MB and so far I have been very impressed. It is as solid motherboard.
Summary: Easily unlock 3rd and 4th cores (and L3 cache) on certain AMD processors (AD5000OGJ22GI). Optical out snap crackles and pops. This is with 3 different motherboards and under XP and Vista, and all kinds of drivers. Haven't tried the HDMI audio out yet. There's 4 or 5 different versions of this motherboard so watch which drivers you use. Sleep/Hibernation can be problematic but finally got it working on one of the boards, so it is doable.
Summary: This is the second board I have installed of this type the first one running windows 7, this one Linux, absolutely no problems with either build, the onboard graphics and onboard sound are great. I would whole heartedly recommend you try the onboard stuff before adding cards getting a 4.2 on windows aero graphics performance scale, which is plenty for me, though I am not a gamer.
