Good Little Board

Anonymous, Newegg
20 September 2011
  • Pros: Easy to install. Had every connection I needed. Bios was easy to update. Easy Tune program does any little bit of overclocking I need and monitors temperatures.
  • Cons: May be hard to add a CPU fan with not much room between CPU and ram slots.

Wonderful All-Purpose Board

Roy G., Newegg
17 June 2011
  • Summary: There are quite a few mentions of random reboots with these boards at varying points of boot time or system use. I haven't experienced this once, however, I have experienced (with a previous, different but similar model Gigabyte board) a situation where, using two memory modules, having the memory...
  • Pros: I have used this board for more than a dozen system builds for various clients in the last few months alone. Each board has proven to be easy to install and configure, and it has the right options for everything from a budget system with integrated graphics to a mid/higher end system. Plenty of i...
  • Cons: Thanks to the chipset involved, you don't get Intel's RAID controller, instead, I believe it's a JMicron controller with 2 GSATA ports separated from the regular SATA ports. To install Windows using these ports, you need to have the drivers for this controller at installation time, much like you ...

What's not to like?

David T., Newegg
23 April 2011
  • Summary: I've built a few systems using this board, the only problem I've ever had was due to a stick of RAM that went bad after 1 wk of use. The thing is, it should have been easier to troubleshoot; Gigabyte's POST message wrongly indicated a bad power supply.
  • Pros: Great feature set for the (discounted) price, the only H55 board I know of that supports USB3, RAID and eSATA. Easy to OC: just set BCLK to 160, use 1600 Mhz RAM and you gain 20% using the stock cooler. You can also overclock the internal GPU with this board, which can help smooth out playback of...
  • Cons: Lousy placement of the front panel audio connector but that's a common problem with many boards from all mfgrs. Also, I would have much preferred SATA headers on edge of board with 90° mounts. Those are more quibbles than cons. See other thoughts for the one real con.

Great board!

Omobeanz, Amazon
20 April 2011
  • Summary: This board worked perfectly with my i3-530. I did not get any of the power cycling issues that others mention. Plenty of internal USB headers which I needed for front LCD panel and card reader in my case. Works great with Ubuntu 10.10 and my HTPC setup. I would definitely recommend.

good so far

gregory h., Newegg
9 April 2011
  • Summary: Follow the instructions closely and make sure the ram is compatible first off!
  • Pros: Bought this months ago and hadn't used it because of finances. Then all the bad reviews made me not want to.Mine does what it supose to do,we really have to make sure we set it up right before we give it a bad name ,the ram,the cpu and vcores have to be set right!
  • Cons: none so far, core i5 at 4.1ghz,4gs of adata 1600 memory not a con.

What reboots?

Scott Y., Newegg
27 March 2011
  • Summary: I don't understand why so many people are complaining about reboots. I'm running Fedora 14 linux and reboot maybe once a month. The only glitch I has was with a bad usb device that prevented the MB from getting past the bios screen.
  • Pros: This MB has been running 24/7 for the past 6 months without a glitch (that I didn't cause). I like how it operates, the large number of USB ports, the graphics connectors (with an i3 - 530 processor as a source) and great sound. This machine is used for recording TV shows, sometimes 3 at a time. ...
  • Cons: I had some problems with the USB-3 ports and my external backup drive. They work ok with my uC controllers and the keyboard/mouse receivers so it isn't a big deal.

Very pleased

barbara f., Newegg
10 March 2011
  • Summary: I was hesitant to purchase this board based on problems others reported, but I'm very glad I decided to give it a try. I've been running 4Ghz for a week now and it is very stable.
  • Pros: Nice set of modern features for the price. Lots of overclocking options and adjustments in BIOS. Firewire was a plus for me (for older camcorder), and USB3 will be nice if I ever find a device that uses it. Board worked great first time I powered it up, and I haven't had any problems with it.
  • Cons: AHCI BIOS a little slow to boot even in Quick Boot mode, about 20 seconds before starting to load the OS. Only CPU fan header has PWM, the single case fan header is variable voltage with no speed control in BIOS, Speedfan, or even bundled ET6 app -- case fan speed control seems to be hard-wired. ...

Just What I Needed!

Andrew K., Newegg
2 March 2011
  • Summary: I wont list it as a con, but if you can't or won't read, you will be unhappy with this board. It very clearly states in what situations to use which speed of ram or when it needs a graphics card. both on the description and on the Manufacturers site.
  • Pros: This is a nice, clean, tight board with all the quality of Gigabyte brand. It lets me fit everything I want and then some, into some of the smallest cases. It is feature RICH! Gigabyte has never let me down, if I have an issue it gets solved. For its size, this board is a powerhouse. I have never...
  • Cons: I won't say the bundled software is junk, I can make yard art out of junk... Solution, use the drivers, forget the apps. Also, I would NEVER consider this board for overclocking. Period. This is a small, feature rich board, use it if you need that. In that role, this board shines, as the backbone...

Excellent - fear not the naysayers!

Anonymous, Newegg
6 February 2011
  • Summary: I never write reviews BTW but I think this will help. When I first powered this board I couldn't get it to post. It kept cycling on and off. I had read the bad reviews here and knew what I might be in for. I reset the CMOS, still had a problem and assumed DOA.
  • Pros: Lots of ports and room for 4 sticks of ram, uATX, not too expensive, quaility seems good, smells good....
  • Cons: Booting takes a bit if time if its checking CD drive for OS first (disable once you're up and running) and minor but only one case fan header

No issues, it works as promised

Michael A., Newegg
6 February 2011
  • Summary: I've paired this motherboard with a i5-760 CPU, and 4x2Gb sticks of G.Skill F3-12800CL7Q memory. After installing Windows-7 64-bit, I enabled EMP in the bios and it was automatic to be running at 1.35V, 1600 speed and 7 latency!
  • Pros: This is a great motherboard to upgrade an existing system. I give it 5-eggs because I got everything I wanted on the board at a fair price. Plenty of on-board functionality: Fire-wire, ATA, USB 3.0, nice sound with Realtek ALC889. I like the fact that it has a PS/2 port for keyboard use, I've had...
  • Cons: No real issues or difficulties. I would have liked some kind of guidance on whether to use the CPU chipset controlled SATA ports or the Gigabyte ports for a simple one hard-drive system.
