Summary: Gigabyte is going straight down hill with their product quality. They used to make a solid, reliable product and 50+% of their MBs and components my computer manufacturing company purchases do no pass our initial testing with a good handful dieing months out.
Summary: I purchased one of these motherboards to create a NAS server, media server. It has been running over a year now with no problems. The OS selected was Windows home server. Unlike others boards this one offers 4 sata ports as well as an IDE port and a 1 GB nic. The board runs very quite and cool.
Summary: Since im using this as a FreeNas file server note my review with a gain of salt. I didnt install windows on this, so i have no idea if it plays netflix, loads office quickly or un zips files fast.... For me, it works 24/7 which is perfect for me!
Pros: works..... there really is nothing AMAZING about this motherboard however that's expected when working with low end machines.
Cons: There wasn't a DVI output. Had to round up a cheap cable and then an adapter for my monitor. (see my after thoughts)
Summary: Next time I will go all out and buy a motherboard which supports an Intel I7.
Pros: I purchased this motherboard mainly because it also accepted IDE/PATA drives. My son has a very old computer that was built using an Asus XV98 MB which ran on a AMD Duron processor which still runs well. He had this computer since he was in kindergarten. He is now a college student in civil engin...
Cons: Had a big problem recognising the old IDE/PATA drives. Hint, make sure that when you plug in the 40 pin ribbon cables that the side with the notch is positioned in the correct orientation. That's part of the reason the SATA standard was adopted.
Pros: Installed ClearOS 5.2 on this board and setup up a software RAID for a server. No problems have occurred during the almost two years of use. Would absolutely buy this again for another server system board.
Cons: FreeNAS would not install on this board, but ClearOS works fine.
Summary: Could I have made it work? I don't know. There is only so much time in life and I gave this more than I should have.
Pros: Good Value
Cons: The system said it has RAID. It does. It supports hardware RAID on 2 of the SATA drives and some type of proprietary Gigabyte "RAID" for the other two??? After fooling with it for 3 days, eventually I couldn't get anything to boot. Also, the only way to clear the CMOS is removing the battery. Thi...
Summary: It looks like this board uses a bridge for half of the SATA ports. Under moderate load, I've seen this bridge timeout under Linux causing the 4 drive RAID 5 to lose two drives and crash the array. I decided to add this information after the second instance I've had to try and rebuild the RAID.
Pros: Small form factor low power usage Quiet
Cons: RAID 5 has failed twice in the two years that I've owned this board.
