Summary: This board has a great mix of components. My one complaint about most board this size is that they only come with 1 network port. For a firewall and complex router, I need 3 network ports. This leaves me in the position of having to find/buy a NIC with at least two ports and those are expensive.
Pros: This is a solid little board. I picked this up to use as a mail server/firewall/web server/file server/DNS cache, etc. This MB replaced my P2-400 that used to be there and I got a 10x speed increase. As it was a partial system upgrade, my existing drives were both PATA and ran off of the single p...
Cons: After a recent power failure, the board now refuses to POST or beep. I had the system protected by a UPS and have it attached to an Antec power supply. This thing is toast. I would have expected the board to last longer. My last board in this role lasted 10 years and was only replaced for perform...
Summary: This is going into a backup server which has two DAT autochangers and two hot-swap hard drives in one ATX tower case. mATX boards simply would not fit in the required space, and I needed a board with four SATA ports and AHCI to handle hotswapping the SATA drives.
Pros: Very nicely designed board, four SATA ports, runs nice and cool.
Cons: First try was DOA; Newegg RMAed with no problem; second time's the charm. The board is rather picky about what memory it likes; I had some no-name DDR2 667 which other systems don't mind, but this board wouldn't start with those sticks installed. Put in some brand-name sticks and it came right up...
Summary: slightly odd power connection. i had to rma the first board b/c it didn't seem to power up. possibly due to improper power connection.
Pros: 4 sata ports, low power. uses 65 watts while nfs-rsyncing through 1 gigbit network onto 4 disk raid 5.
Cons: the 12v plug on the board is not the second part of the m/b power plug. i suppose it's the part that normally attaches to video cards. appeared dao. no buzzer makes it hard to tell if things are connected properly.
Summary: Using these boards for NAS builds at work, combined with Chenbro case, 4GB RAM, 8GB PATA SSD, 4 2TB drives (RAID 10) & Ubuntu Server (using Webmin for management). On some of these, we are also running VMWare on top of Ubuntu with a Win7Pro virtual machine to handle Windows-only software for camera...
Pros: 4 SATA plus PATA New Generation Atom D510
Cons: None noted here FYI - While I haven't had any issues, you must plug in speakers to hear beep codes! Have a feeling that's why there's so many DOA reports with these. That and ATX12V is required to be connected.
Summary: I got this board to replace a dead Shuttle K45 with 1.8 Ghz Celeron. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. This board costs a few $ more than similar boards. I chose it because of the great revews. I am using it for NAS, backup (backuppc), and media server (mediatomb).
Pros: Worked perfectly out-of-the-box. Has just about any port type you might want, except DVI/HDMI. Has separate disk controller for 2 extra SATA drives (4 total) plus IDE. Manual is very clear and is written in gramatically correct English. The CPU fan is very quiet, and is normally off or running ve...
Cons: Front panel connections for Audio and USB are at rear of board. No on-board buzzer, so BIOS beep codes are sent to the audio output.
Summary: Meh. Works as advertised. I wish someone else would come up with a better 4x SATA Atom board for under $100.
Pros: 4x SATA. Low power consumption. Works as advertised. Perfect for my Windows Home Server.
Cons: SATA raid and AHCI functionality appears to require a BIOS update. Took a few minutes to find a way to update the BIOS without a floppy (couldn't easily do it from in Windows like with my Intel boards). Still don't have RAID up yet as I'm waiting on some additional drives, so I can't comment, but...
Summary: If it were not for the fan I would give it a 5. Bought this as a bundle with Rosewill RS-MI-01 BK Mini ITX Tower. This is a bad combination as you do not have much room to replace/install the CPU fan. I modified the case so I could flip the PS.
Pros: 4 SATA and IDE makes it a nice low power home server.
Cons: CPU fan has annoying harmonics. Not loud but sounds like a fluorescent light about to fail. See below
Summary: Makes a great media center platform. I havent tried 1080p videos but I really dont have any.
Pros: This gigabyte is the best board Ive used yet. It playes my dvd`s ripped to my external hard drive, pluss all of my divix movies. I use it as a media center. Encodes video twice as fast as the previous atom n330 board did. With windows 7 home, the media center is super smooth. Using a watt meter (...
Cons: It wont play newer pc games well, buts thats to be expected. It does play my older game. Wish it had a pcie slot insted of a pci slot.
