Summary: while reading the reviews, it seems there are a few tweaks that may have avoided this problem. I am now in the rma process with Gigabyte
Pros: I have liked the Gigabyte brand for many years as it is often in the mid-range of price/performance. I have probably purchased more than 20 Gigabyte boards with no issue to report. This system worked well for about a year and a half.
Cons: It now will not boot; fans spinning, but no post, & no raster I cleared cmos, and removed the board from the case. Same result. no boot, no raster, yet fans running. Visual observation finds no obvious damage. I did have the power go out a few days ago. The system was connected to a ups.
Cons: Audio never could get to work right. Only 1/2 the sound. Right channel missing. Tried headsets (2), different speakers always missing 1/2 sound. Something wrong with the Mini Pin. Even tried latest driver on Web Site
Summary: Used one of these on a recent Windows 7 64-Bit build. For 7, this board worked great. With some issues resolved, this board is part of what is now a reliable Windows 7 system that proves good performance for the money and with plenty of PCI, PCI-E slots for growth. Having 4 RAM slots is fantastic.
Pros: A lot of room to grow ! Lots of slots ! Good layout. Makes for the foundation of a Windows box with good value.
Cons: Original firmware pretty buggy. Tricky to get Ubuntu 10.04 to boot with a VGA monitor. With original firmware, hard to get Linux 2.x Kernel going. Might require Windows to update the formware.
