Sent back before opening - Too many terrible reviews
7 July 2015
Pros: Price, features
Cons: Just get the ASUS M5A99FX - I ordered one of these Gigabytes and got very cold feet after the plethora of terrible reviews (even including the rev 4's) with NB heat, USB issues, etc... The M5A99FX is absolutely fantastic, it really really is. Been cranking an AMD 8320 in it past 4.5ghz absolutely...
Summary: I think the chipset has issues, could just be this board, and I've tried changing/replacing nearly everything else. Currently have a repair order in to Gigabyte whom I've always had great success with thier boards in the past. I'll see how thier Support does.
Pros: Supports Xfire and FX processors.
Cons: Extremely slow to boot, drops all USB ports when it goes to sleep mode, cannot return from sleep without reboot. Formatted drive as UEFI drive (SSD) thinking it should be fastest/newest type format. Bad idea. VERY bad idea. Reloaded windows as Legacy drive. Somewhat faster, but no much.
Summary: Board isn't bad, but with the level of support, it's a gamble. Saved by Newegg's support and return policy.
Pros: Board features are nice. UEFI.
Cons: Gigabyte doesn't seem very serious about support with this product. The drivers were out of date and the BIOS was several versions behind. On boot my board displayed a message that the BIOS was corrupted. I tried using the "easy" BIOS flashing utility in the UEFI, but the files hosted on Gigabyte...
Summary: I've had this board since January '15. It was running stable for four months and then things wend down hill. I decided to run SLI GPUs and needed to upgrade the PSU. I picked up a new one, swapped it in to the system (not removing or changing any other compnents) and got nothing.
Pros: Good looking design, Dual BIOS, robust connectivity, ran fine until it didn't...
Summary: I have sent in a support request and will update this review once I receive a working product.
Pros: the board has plenty of features and is able to do what I need it to do.. when it works.
Cons: board failed. extensive testing of cpu, power supply, memory, and drives show all components are healthy. The board appears to be fluctuating as the fans noticeably speed up and slow down. The board gives no beep codes even when the memory and cpu are removed.
Summary: Gigabyte should be ashamed for putting this out on the market and failing to fix the issue for SEVERAL YEARS. They are going to be looking forward to a class action lawsuit for the distribution of defective hardware.
Pros: An otherwise nice little board, very simple, but powerful and mostly problem free EXCEPT
Cons: ... the VIA 805 chip and the BIOS do not seem to play along nicely together. If you reboot your machine, there is a high likelihood that your USB 3.0 ports will disappear from BIOS -- and thus from the OS. Ha Ha! This has apparently been a problem for quite some time now, as far back as 2013 base...
Summary: So I really wanted this board to work.... i really did. I have put three sets of ddr3 1600 memory into this thing. All three have worked out fine for 20 minutes or so and then have either caused restarts or freezing.
Pros: I wish it would work properly
Cons: Doesn't like memory running in dual channel so much it fried 3 brand new ram chips.... Got an error saying that the bios was corrupted. had to call newegg. asked for an immediate rma.
Cons: It has worked since it has arrived. At this point I'm trying to get it to work, but I'm doubting that. Having to do the bios update was also a hassle in which I'm not getting through because it seems that the mobo is faulty.
Pros: Great chipset, great expandability, very feature rich, looks nice in my machine.
Cons: Reliability. Thrice now the BIOS has corrupted when switching between windows and linux. It is able to recover itself but this causes GRUB to boot directly to rescue mode (presumably because GRUB no longer knows where things in the BIOS are). If you've never had the pleasure of recovering a broke...
Summary: Invest more in your customer support. Corsair has you guys beat by a long shot.
Pros: The motherboard has been fantastic thus far. Gigabyte could improve their software drastically. It is definitely not as good as Asus. However for the motherboard itself it has not given me any issues except for some configuration. Overall though I do recommend their board. It supports a lot and c...
Cons: So I purchased this motherboard because it was on sale, and had a mail in rebate. Well I postmarked the rebate on time. Thereafter I resubmitted the required paperwork to complete the rebate. 2 weeks later, I received an email stating that they have not received my paperwork and to resubmit and m...
